I wasn't involved in the implementation of Vanilla, so I didn't receive the formal introductory training, but even without that, I was able to build a beautiful, easy-to-navigate community. I wish they had a better knowledge base or LMS for training materials; Vanilla's training articles are all in their own community and sometimes it's hard to track down the info you need. Thankfully, their team is always willing to help and get on calls to assist and the 'community' of community managers are always willing to share best practices, tips, and ideas.
- Native reporting/dashboard functionality isn't as robust as we'd like. Their reporting works fine for the standard community metrics (new users, total logins, etc) but we do more reporting outside of Vanilla for deeper insights on community impact. - I don't contact their support team often, but I've had good experiences when using them. I've had two CSMs in the past and both have been easy to work with. - Vanilla was acquired by Higher Logic a while back, and it's clear the company values Higher Logic's association-focused tool more than this corporate-focused platform, but there are definitely still great improvements being made to Vanilla's platform all the time.

Easy to use and customize platform but slightly limited reporting and admin functionality
I'll start by saying that Vanilla is the first community platform I've managed, so I can't speak to how it compares to other community platforms. That said, I've found it to be a very easy to use and customize platform. We've built a beautiful community (I may be biased on that front) that brings a lot of value to our customers and see increased engagement MoM compared to our past communities through other platforms. The native reporting functionality gets the job done but is a bit limited. Thankfully, we can integrate Vanilla with our customer success platform, allows us to compare community engagement data into customer data for deeper data analysis.
