Working with Watson Knowledge Catalog: Extremely poor UI makes it very difficult to populate the catalog ramp up new users. Online documentation is poorly organized and written. Lack of training materials. Poor design of data management within the project leads to slow performance and the need for larger hardware (which makes for higher license costs.) Using the newest version 3.0.1 but still encountering unexplained errors that appear to be server-generated due to unstable interactions with the UI. Trying to overcome the many fundamental difficulties in order to actually benefit from the more advanced features that seem to be available in the tool - but it's hard slogging. Would not recommend this tool or the Cloud Pak for Data suite.

It can be integrated with existing ecosystems, such as Control-M to orchestrate complex scheduling needs, and Windows AD to leverage existing access governance. Beyond that, its practical and robust, capable of handling complex business scenarios.

Could have better documentation.

As described above: extremely difficult counter-intuitive design; slow performance; instabilities leading to frequent unexplained errors; poor or unavailable documentation; nonexistent training materials.

We faced two main challenges. The first was the complexity of the layers involved in setting up the tool, especially since the installation was on-premises making OpenShift knowledge essential. The second issue was the lack of third-party documentation. Although IBMs official documentation is extensive, we faced the same issue as with DataStage: limited documentation generated by the user community.
