“Powerful workplace collaboration and sharing hub”

4.0
Oct 3, 2019
Social networking and interactions within the workplace increases productivity and builds on the strength of sharing. IBM Connections gives that kind of networking a chance. Knowledge and ideas abound to the benefit of the organisation. connections is my default treasure trove for organisation data and manuals for my work unit. It's within reach at all times as long as you have an authorised account of access. IBM Connections is built around Sharepoint. In my view it is a solidly built sharing and collaboration environment which everyone can benefit from. There are many other sharing enablers integrated into this product which makes communications easier and fluid. These are IBM Lotus notes email, Sametime connections for instant messaging and fie sharing.

The product sales team over promised and under delivered. Many features and capabilities that were promised were unable to be completed without significant customization. The product overall seems to be suffering from a lack of direction and leadership.

IBM Connections (On-Premises) Likes & Dislikes

Like

What I like most about Connections is that it connects people within the organisation and enables them to share ideas within their communities of practice. I like the way information is curated and classified according to CoPs and like minded professionals can choose to follow each other and share what is most relevant to their specific fields

Like

On paper, the feature set is formidable.

Like

I like that Connections allows for mobile usability and external links It is scalable and integrates well with other IBM software programs

Dislike

It is an intimidating platform which takes time to understand, its not cheap either

Dislike

None of it worked well together. It becomes clear when using that the product was cobbled together over years of development by different teams with few standards and guidelines.

Dislike

There isn't enough material to fully orient staff and this has affected the implementation of the program

Great place for ideating and sharing

    4.0
    Oct 6, 2019
Great product overall but my teams are bit slow to fully utilise it. You will find that only certain departments are taking full advantage of Connections for sharing and ideating within their communities of practice. There are lots of hash tags to follow and wikis relating to subjects one chooses to follow. Connections has capabilities to enable engagements within and without the organisation. External connections enabled outside stakeholders to engage with internal staff on issues affecting their relationship with the company
