Netcool is the defacto event collection and management software. The analytics around event collection are also very useful when running down problems in the network. The ITNM topology service also provides a high level of enrichment as well as root cause analysis.
Great overall performance, stability and well known interface for connecting new elements. Really helped us on leveraging several automations for our Software-based Network Operations Center;
Despite strong capabilities for the core functions, the solution isn't attractive considering the advanced features compared to similar solutions. for example analytics and correlation functions could be more user friendly and easier to administrate.
IBM's approach to training, certification and innovation with Netcool is very lack luster. The support we receive when something goes awry with the platform is about the same with slow response and turn around times. We are working with the Netcool team as a sponsored user; however, it seems new features and functions have been put on the back burner while the product was being refactored.
Not so intuitive to create and provision customized rules based on past events. The platform should provide more evident insights and suggest rules based on event analysis (once its called Operations Insights).
