ScienceLogic AI Platform

The recent acquisition of RestorePoint (now Skylar Compliance) has plugged a gap in our ScienceLogic implementation which has meant we can retire some very old back-up/restore capabilities We have found that the ScienceLogic API functionality and integration into third-party orchestrators to be significantly better than some of their competitors which has helped our speed-to-market and reduced our dependency on SNMP monitoring. We have found ScienceLogic's response to feature requests and the quality of their professional services to be exceptionally better than some of their competitors (example being their recent release of Geo-maps feature which we have been in favour of receiving prioritisation and has progressed well).

The integrated automations are easy to create and they add a lot of value to the events generated. It is highly customizable and you can get exactly what you want out of it.

The platform stands out for its ease of use combined with the depth and flexibility of its capabilities. The platform is highly extensible, allowing us to build on the core functionality and tailor it to meet our specific operational needs. Its configurability enables us to focus on what matters most such as device health monitoring and alerting while supporting multi-tenant environments effectively. Additionally , seamless integrations with platforms like ServiceNow enhances our workflows and improve overall efficiency, making it a versatile and valuable solution for our organization.

Hard to say because we are proactively exiting some of their competitors in favour of ScienceLogic as our consolidated tech of choice. My main constructive criticism is that we have found at times some of their update scripts could provide clearer commentary on failures. At times some of the ScienceLogic documentation can be a little vague. They make up for it with their support, but there are times where my team could self-serve better if documentation was a bit more explicit/clear. One other limitation is that we have needed to deploy and support multiple stacks of ScienceLogic due to the upper-bound in the devices supportable per-stack (~10,000 devices).

There is a lot of admin to ensure all devices are present and collecting what is expected. Basic tasks seem to be very long winded and complex compared to other products. The focus is on automation and more advanced features, but the basics need work.

While Skylar One provides strong overall capabilities, there are a few areas that could be improved. Platform upgrades can be time-consuming and somewhat complex, and the lack of support for blue/green deployment models limits flexibility during maintenance and release cycles. Additionally, the API, particularly within the REST and GQL has some gaps in functionality , which can require reliance on the GUI for task that would ideally be automated. There are also some limitations around support for certain host based agents, such Splunk Forwarder and Tripwire, to give examples due to the appliance-based architecture.
