The thing I like most about Skype is its international calls feature and its affordable calling to landlines and mobile numbers which helps me stay connected to my clients globally. Another stand out feature for me is its accessibility for screen sharing and file transfer. This helps me in staying connected and sharing data with my clients easily. Apart from this, its cross platform availability, End to end encryption and its integration with Microsoft makes it more suitable to use.
The best part of skype for me is its established global network and available cross platform feature. Unfortunately, however, the platform does offer good audio and video quality for individuals, which makes it an ideal platform for group video calls. they also released a real time translation feature for instant messaging, which is especially useful for overcoming language barrier in international between devices and operating systems, enabling users to switch between desktop and mobile platforms.
The screen-sharing feature is the one that I liked the most and found it very useful. The reason behind that was the ease of operation it causes. Due to this feature I can easily view the things on other person's system and even can help my fellow colleagues in troubleshooting any problem that occurs during the process regardless of how far the person is available. As per our desire we can either go for a video call or for an audio one.
Thing i dislike most about Skype is its heavy resource usage and inconsistent performance during group calls. It usually lags or crashes and this issue is mostly faced while using it on older devices. Apart from this, Skype has a huge bandwidth, meaning it requires a strong internet connection for calls and calls usually drop on weak connections. It's also slow to feature updates and lack of innovation has led to a decrease in its popularity, with many users switching to other platforms.
The most significant drawback of skype lies in its inconsistent performance and dated user interface. The platform frequently experiences technical issues, including unexpected disconnections, audio delays and video quality degradation even with stable internet connections. File sharing capabilities are particularly problematic with size limitations and occasional transfer failures that can impede productive collaboration.
Sometimes it's unstable and lags a lot. Everything freezes for a while and then starts again. Due to this issue time gets wasted and the overall planned meeting time is hampered.
