UniFi Switches

UniFi Network Switches are fantastic pieces of IT equipment. They are so easy to install, adopt & manage. 10/10 for convenience and easy-of-use.

I administrate a medium sized enterprise WAN. I have 30 locations in 3 states and utilize approximately 600 Unifi devices (Switches, Wireless Access Points's and Video Surveillance). These devices are inexpensive and the learning curve on the administration portal is short. Their firmware/software patching implementation is unstable, I have lost everything more than once simply updating firmware. Their PoE is lacking voltage options in most of their switches and compatibility with appliances is poorly communicated. Technical support is almost non-existent, you can expect the bulk of support to come from a completely voluntary user community. Apparently they have not overcome supply chain problems as many products have been sold out for nearly two years now. Their wireless AP's are prone to performance degradation in medium density signal environments. Their surveillance cameras do not have a particularly long life span and not as water resistant as their marketing will lead you to believe. They have been the victims of at least one MAJOR security breach that included customer data. This sounds pretty critical and I should probably mention my deployment is in an industrial setting. Bottom line, they are cheap and easy to use but require a lot of attention to maintain.
