Azure Site Recovery Likes & Dislikes
Things that I personally really appreciate about the service are: 1. It is a really easy setup and configuration as the guided steps make it simple to configure. 2. Automated failover testing allows you to verify recovery plans without affecting production. 3. It allows me to monitor the health of my workloads and notifies me of any issues present.
Infra team liked the promptness of this vendor for any infra related work. This vendor provided detailed technical items in the quotes and SOW which helped the team to make the proactive decision on whether to this vendor or not.
We like most of all: 1) Really fast (seconds) and highly reliable fail over. This is the main reason why we use this service. 2) Integration capabilities (specifically support of different VM types (Hyper V and VMware in our case)) and how easy it is to start using that almost immediately. This is highly appreciated. 3) Automation capabilities with Azure Automation and how we can control the whole process with our own custom scripts deployed with Infrastructure as a Code (IaC). 4) Less important but relevant for us is the on-premises support as we have a local datacenter with some physical servers footprint.
Things that I think should be improved are as follows: 1. The cost adds up exponentially depending on how many machines you're replicating and how often you test failovers. 2. Troubleshooting errors isn't always the easiest of tasks and the vast documentation adds to the technical complexity. 3. Replication of large workloads takes up big chunks of time, especially during the first sync.
The changes the vendor deployed were a bit complex in nature and the vendor was able to provide line by line configuration items. However, there are many other ways to finish the configuration. It would have been better if more technical resources were provided to minimize the disruption within the internal IT team.
1) Solution is Pay as you go so you should be careful with the consumption and configurations you enable as it may lead to unpredictable (high) costs. 2) The reporting capabilities have a lot of room for improvement, as you may see some basic things and you need to create your own scripts to extract the data and ingest it in some other data source, so it's not fully online and requires extra effort. 3) Not all VMs are supported (example, we use some Linux versions that cannot be used with ASR).

Convenient Azure Service Praised, Improvements Needed in Reporting and Cost Predictability
Microsoft is a trusted vendor and we use a lot of services in Azure. We like the level and quality of support and the way we interact. Also, it is very convenient to open a ticket related to Azure services if needed and it could be routed accordingly if the issue is related to Azure Site Recovery (ASR) or anything else. - AUDIT ASSOCIATE<50M USDBankingReview Source
Powerful Disaster Recovery with Seamless Azure Integration, but Setup is a bit Hard
The integration with Azure services works really well and the automation makes the failover fast and efficient. The thing that doesn't work that well is the complexity of deployment and configuration. They require a team with strong knowledge. - CYBERSECURITY ANALYST<50M USDIT ServicesReview Source
