Contentful Platform Likes & Dislikes
The product is very flexible, it has been able to handle our peak traffic times without issue, update statuses are clear if something is published or in draft mode, you can schedule an update for a later time which has been great for timed announcements. Overall it has been relatively easy to learn how to use and quickly become productive.
Ease of search
We've built so much on top of it. An ungodly amount. And it hasn't crumbled.
It doesn't support search for the frontend without third-party integration. I don't know if this is a limitation of Contentful or how we built it, but I wish we could use the same space to trigger a deploy to stage then prod separately, currently any publishing in Contentful goes to all environments so there isn't really a way to test it after we went live.
1) The nested component view can be difficult to navigate. 2) There is no ability to manage components of the same type at the same time; often we are trying to edit content across multiple sub-components, but will need to navigate out and back in repeatedly, rather than viewing multiple at once. 3) Forms are not intuitive to create or edit and can be quite cumbersome. It would be great if they were more modular/visible on the backend as they are on the front.
Searching for entries times out often for us. Granted we have a ton of entries, but even searching by entry ID will often fail. I imagine entry ID should be a primary key and very efficient to search for, but I'm sure there's more to it, just sharing feedback from my perspective. We also tend to create distinct page entries for each locale instead of creating one entry to serve multiple locales. This is because there is variance that makes it difficult to share a single page entry. Things like one locale having unique content/sections that other locales don't have. This leads to creating many more entries.

Contentful is exactly the flexible CMS we were looking for to allow dynamic content updates with our custom UI
We integrated Contentful as our CMS for the past year and a half. We are able to dynamically update our website's home page to be up-to-date as well as our resource pages that contain training materials, guides, and general user assets. We also use Contentful to manage our announcement banners for real-time user alerts. It has been wonderful as we were able to build the frontend to have a seamless look and feel as the rest of our application's UI/UX and have the CMS control to update text, images, and assets without development releases being necessary. Contentful has been cost-effective, easy to learn, and met our requirements with flying colors. We support different teams and they can all update their pages and resources separately as needed. - Engineer10B+ USDBankingReview Source
Efficiency Issues Arise When Handling Extensive Contentful Entry Volumes
Overall good, impressed. I think we have pushed Contentful to the absolute limits of what we should even be trying to do. We have a ton of entries. But as a result, we sometimes see the Contentful web UI time out when searching for entries. It's very annoying, but I get it. - IT Manager50M-1B USDRetailReview Source
Handling Environments and Locales Simplifies Multi-Region Content Delivery Processes
This product initially caught our interest due to its headless CMS concept, which aligns well with our e-commerce business model as a corporation delivering content across multiple brands and localisations. Over time the product has continued to evolve, introducing a range of new features, some of which have been relevant to our needs, while others are more tailored to other businesses seeking a more traditional WYSIWYG experience. The main challenges we've encountered involve API rate limits and platform uptime, both of which required us to implement additional systems and custom developments to ensure stability and scalability. Platform content model has helped us engage content creators across multiple squads, enabling context definition and role separation, while decoupling data management from data rendering in our user interfaces. - MARKETING MANAGER<50M USDEnergy and UtilitiesReview Source
System’s Full Potential Remains Untapped Due To Limited Feature Usage
It works fine but is most depending on the developers skills and I am not sure they always make the most out of the system. But that is more of an internal issue. We do not use all features that was in the scope and what was communicated as a benefit so that makes the experience less than it should be. The expectations where high from what we learned but but it has not lived up to it. It was purchased from HQ for nordic purpose. - Development Lead1B-10B USDConsumer GoodsReview Source
Modular Platform Offers Flexibility But Complexity Hampers Non-Technical User Experience
Contentful is highly flexible and offers many possibilities for creating data-driven user-experiences. It works very well for technical users, and the customization options are impressive. However, since it is primarily designed for technical roles, building an intuitive experience for content creators takes extra focus, time and effort.
