Founded in 2016 by Matthew Hodgson and Amandine Le Pape, Element has over 100 employees spread across 20 countries. They include software engineers, commercial executives, product managers and support staff. Element shares its founders with Matrix: a decentralised, open standard for real-time communication. Today Element still employees the majority of core team who established Matrix. Element's mission is to protect the world's progress. MATRIX Technology Behind Element is Excellent -- Everything Else Could Be Better
The core technology behind Element, the MATRIX protocol, is excellent. However, the commercial company has made anti-customer choices and raised prices significantly, all without delivering any additional features or real value (they removed the ability to host your own instance with the enterprise plan and force you to use their servers at a much steeper cost). There has been no account management follow up. Onboarding is non-existent. Support is responsive over email.
