1. Amazon API Gateway

By Amazon Web Services (AWS)

4.5
(940 Ratings)

We have been using AWS API Gateway to manage and expose our backend services where it provides a scalable and reliable way to handle API traffic, with seamless integration across other AWS services like Lambda, Cloudwatch and IAM significantly simplifies building secure and event-driven architectures. This performs well under all scenarios. There is a slight learning curve around the configurations. One of the most valuable aspects is its ability to handle request throttling, authentication and monitoring, which reduces the need for additional infrastructure. Performance is consistent, and the platform scales automatically without manual intervention. Overall. Amazon API Gateway is a robust, enterprise-grade API management solution that is well-suited for modern cloud-native applications. Despite minor complexities in setup and cost optimization, it delivers strong performance, scalability and integration capabilities.

It is a productive platform for day-to-day API testing, collaboration and team coordination. This is especially useful in teams that follow agile methodologies where API changes frequently and often. It also helps in reducing the dependency on using multiple tools for API management and usage. It is best for teams in standardizing the API's on how to structure collections and environments. Having said that, there are a few minor limitations I feel. The problem is that if large collections are used then it becomes heavy and debugging would be somewhat tricky overall. One more thing is that I am using it when this review is being written.

Overall experience has been very positive. We have done a implementation of ebonding between 2 servicenow instances. One servicenow instance was a shared services domain separated and client moved from domain separated to their own standalone instance . However the client didnt wanted to stop the tickets creation in shared instance so the requirement of ebonding came between these instances. While doing ebonding we used WSo2 Api and use was very seamless . What a minute level of mapping of the fields were done . I was amazed to see the attachement API working so perfectly. No words to express the level of detail easy to use . I would recommend WSO2 API to everyone to keep the instance secure and mapping of fields intact , no surprises.

My overall experience using Microsoft APIM is that it is very secure and very well integrates with Azure. There's a lot of options you can choose from. You can define an API, Create an AI API, Create from definition or Create from Azure resources. Sometimes it's very time consuming because it's complicated to troubleshoot esp if you don't have enough Microsoft skills

While the learning curve is high if you're not experienced in this, the application of this tool is great for teams that need to manage and handle data flowing between APIs but don't have the engineering expertise to do so. There are many different tools within the Anypoint Platform ranging from IDPs to API Management to Deployment. Regarding data flow, there are many out of the box solutions available through their marketplace but it's easy to build your own as well through their fill-in-the-blank language template called DataWeave.

Kong team is pretty responsive to emails and followups. They have a good understanding of your product in general. Some advisors are more knowledgeable about our use case and are more helpful with that. Primary communication is from email, and things would go faster sometimes if it was Teams meetings or phone calls. Sometimes it would be helpful if they sought to understand more of what I was trying to do before providing an answer. A couple things were deprecated that we were using and I wonder if some of this stems from some startup growing pains of finding what works best.
