Lucid Software is a software company that provides a cloud-based visual collaboration platform that helps teams plan, document, and align work. The platform includes applications for intelligent diagramming and virtual whiteboarding that support activities such as process mapping, system visualization, brainstorming, and workflow definition. Lucid Software offers optional accelerators that extend the platform for specific initiatives, including support for business agility, cloud infrastructure planning, and process documentation and governance. These capabilities operate on a unified platform with real-time collaboration, shared data, AI-assisted features, and enterprise security and administrative controls. Lucid Software’s products are used by organizations across industries to support distributed teams and coordination across technical and business workflows.

Lucid provides a smooth and user-friendly experience with strong visual design. The color options and formatting tools are simple yet effective, making diagrams and mind maps easy to present professionally. The wide range of templates is extremely helpful, and the explanations provided for each template add value, especially fro new users. I also appreciate the guided tutorials that help users to quickly get accustomed to the platform and its features.
The ease of use with getting setup is best in class and the software doesn't need explanation to use and get started. The ability to spin up a diagram or whiteboard and share it with others, including those without licenses, is easy, efficient, and powerful.
1. Starting with having structured data flows, how data moves in and out with simpler, clearer data flows to explain to our stakeholders, approvers and new users. 2. Cloud based so no need to download another piece of software 3. Easier integration with tools like Google Drive, Confluence, Atlassian, Slack etc. 4. Faster learning curve than traditional tools
The main drawback is the absence of certain expected features in mind mapping and flow diagram creation, as well as more intuitive file and user management.
Lucid's internal processes put significant strain on our business relationship. There has been an extremely high amount of turnover in our first few years within their account management team which left to confusion and communication gaps for extended periods of time. Additionally, the in-product self-service license purchase workflow has made it difficult for us to scale with ease. Lastly, the administration section is the most challenging part of the platform to use. It's extremely difficult to navigate and it's unclear what the different features within do relative to each other. There is very little flexibility with respect to user management which makes it difficult for me to take an audit of how many users are licensed in each business unit.
I have worked on other traditional tools before our company started using Lucid - some Microsoft features are not compatible while using Lucid so might require rework while migrating documents. I have also noticed that some of the custom libraries are limited, which might be a concern for more technical IT teams. And while traveling there needs to be an offline version, if possible considering Lucid is cloud based.
