There are several features that I really loved about the product: 1. Seamless Microsoft ecosystem integration - it connects seamlessly with Microsoft 365, Teams and Power BI letting us pull real-time data. 2. Real-time financial insights and reporting. 3. Cloud-based flexibility and scalability - Being fully cloud hosted means secure access from anywhere and automatic updates from Microsoft. 4. Strong security and compliance features.
It connects easily with Excel and Power BI which is probably the biggest win for our finance team. The layout feels clean and straightforward once you get used to it. Being fully cloud-based keeps things accessible and low-maintenance on the IT side.
D365's full integration with our existing M365 user base ensures we have a single user account to setup and manage. Giving users the ability to pull reports directly has allowed the IT team to focus more on security and data protection measures than day to day CRM requests. Management, vendor and OEM reporting capabilities have been greatly improved across the organization since our implementation of D365.
As someone using Business Central in finance, here are the things I dislike and are fairly common for healthcare: 1. Steep learning curve and user adoption challenges - The interface and navigation aren't as intuitive as simpler tools like Microsoft 365 apps. This requires solid training, especially for staff not used to full ERP systems. 2. Limited out of box customization for healthcare specific needs - While extensible via apps, advanced tweaks often require developer help or third party add ons. 3. Costs can escalate quickly. 4. Occasional performance and reporting limitations.
Customizations aren't as simple as they should be. You often need developer help for what feels like small changes. It slows down when you pull large reports or historical data. The licensing and permissions setup can be confusing when the roles change.
We have a fairly high level of customization in D365 which did drive up our initial implementation costs as a 3rd party was used to do the custom setup. License costs are also important to consider, as there is a huge cost difference between the various D365 user licenses that must be considered. Ensuring that the lowest level license is assigned to users will help keep your costs down.
