“Paylocity Platform Centralizes Tools but Faces Usability and Support Challenges”

I am giving Paylocity 4 stars but they are really probably more at 3.5 stars. My overall experience with Paylocity has been positive, and the platform offers a wide range of useful features. However, as with any HRIS system, there are always areas of improvement. I have used several different HRIS systems and Paylocity is better than many, but there is still room for improvement. Paylocity could be more intuitive and streamlined. With some improvements to usability and consistency across modules, the system could be stronger. In addition, customer service is hit or miss depending on the account rep you have. We had a great rep that left or got promoted and out new one is not as helpful or knowledgeable. A lot of times they send you links to guides instead of helping.

“Helpful Communication Features Noted Amid Challenges in Technical Support Expertise”

3.0
Dec 4, 2025
I gave the product an average rating as when there is a complex issue, I often need to speak with several people and a lot of time to get it remedied. I have learned to make very detailed emails about the problem, as when they transfer me to a new person--I have to start all over explaining the situation. I have also learned to ask the person helping me what changes they made to the configuration/rules in the system so I can document it, and when I am told I need to speak with someone new--I have a very clear knowledge of what has been tried. We did have an issue where after we had Paylocity help us set up multiple rates of pay for different employees, but "weighted averaging" of the overtime rate was never expressed to us (either verbally or through a pop up message) that by federal law--this is required. We are now in the process of self-auditing to make sure our staff we properly paid overtime for the last 3 years. We also needed to work with Paylocity managers to get our configuration of overtime to calculate correctly as "weighted". It took several weeks, and I talked to several people. This is a federal law, and Paylocity being the experts, should have let us know that if we are setting up multiple rates of pay for a person--we needed to change the overtime rate configuration. It was difficult to find someone in Paylocity who knew how to fix this problem. Also, the managers that are first spoken to send us "articles" about the issue. Once I review the article and find it was not helpful, I call back in to speak with the same manager but that manager is unavailable--the new manager I speak with will usually try to send me the same article that did not work. It would be nice if they had different reps that are knowledgeable about certain situations that customers can be referred to for those types of problems. I do have several things I do like about Paylocity. I do get a real person to speak to. This is very important to me. All have been friendly and try to be helpful, even if they do not know how to help. Paylocity has some good features and seems to be improving.

Paylocity Platform Praised for Intuitive Interface but Sign-In Process Challenging

    5.0
    Feb 25, 2026
We switched to Paylocity and honestly the change has been significant. It´s much more intuitive and easier to use. Visually is amazing and it offers many features we can take advantage of, and the dashboard is very transparent and easy to understand and navigate. So far, I´ve really liked the platform and feel that the change has definitely been for the better.

Paylocity’s Self-Service System Lacks Timely Improvements and Reliable Assistance

    3.0
    Jan 13, 2026
I think you can have some great employees that will help you but overall Paylocity is a service that you have to do EVERYTHING. There is not much support unless you get a good rep, but mostly the reps last 6 months at best with you before they are transferred to a new role. If you are used to a system helping you with things, Paylocity wants you to find the problem and then fix it yourself. Also very outdated, the benefits is VERY complicated. EDI feeds take forever to get set up. All the updates are for the wrong things, like updating the look of the home page, but you still cannot have a field for accrual PTO on the balance left for the year.

    Paylocity Review

    3.0
    Dec 8, 2025
Paylocity is a very easy platform to learn, and we've had a good experience for the most part. Pros would be ease of use, pricing and communications from Paylocity are very helpful. Their team is usually responsive (depending on the subject). Cons - slow to incorporate tax changes creating manual intervention by the employer (our company), and you need to verify that multiple state taxes are set up for employees working in multiple states.

Performance of Paylocity Across Market Features

Paylocity Likes & Dislikes

Like

What I like most about Paylocity is the features it offers. The platform brings many HR, payroll, and employee management tools into one place, making it easier to manage a variety of tasks within a single system. The app is also very good and we get no complaints from employees. Paylocity has also made improvements that overall have made for a better experience.

Like

I really like the community feature. Being able to establish different staff groups and communicate with those different groups as needed was a big selling point. I can send a memo to all, or a select group. I can also add attachments and it keeps a record of the information sent to the employees. Employees can comment or ask questions. I also like the ability to store employee / company documents for employees to be able to reference, such as policies and handbooks.

Like

What I like most is how easy it is to use and how interactive it feels. I also really value the ability to recognize your teamates, set and track goals, and have everything clearly outlined in your profile, such as gross salary, taxes, pay breakdown, benefits and more. Overall, I find it to be a very complete platform.

Dislike

What I dislike most is the inconsistency between different modules. Some parts of Paylocity are very user-friendly, while others feel outdated or less efficient, which creates frustration. The modules are also not well streamlined, which can make routine tasks more time-consuming because you have to make changes in several different areas. Also, customer service is hit or miss. Sometimes you get wrong answers and different answers depending on who you talk to. It would also be more helpful if Administrators were able to have more control over adding and changing things in the system instead of having to rely on support to handle.

Dislike

Some important issues take a long time to find the right person at Paylocity who has the knowledge to resolve the issue and a long time to get the system corrected and tested.

Dislike

Its a bit difficult for me to access the platform when logging in. I feel there should be an easier way to sign in through Google or Microsoft I would like the e-learning courses to be provided by other companies and to offer certificates. I see there is a wide variety of courses, so I want to point out that I still need to explore that section more. Honestly, I cant think of a third point since the platform is very complete, intuitive, and easy to use.
