“Paylocity Platform Centralizes Tools but Faces Usability and Support Challenges”

4.0
Dec 11, 2025
I am giving Paylocity 4 stars but they are really probably more at 3.5 stars. My overall experience with Paylocity has been positive, and the platform offers a wide range of useful features. However, as with any HRIS system, there are always areas of improvement. I have used several different HRIS systems and Paylocity is better than many, but there is still room for improvement. Paylocity could be more intuitive and streamlined. With some improvements to usability and consistency across modules, the system could be stronger. In addition, customer service is hit or miss depending on the account rep you have. We had a great rep that left or got promoted and out new one is not as helpful or knowledgeable. A lot of times they send you links to guides instead of helping.

“Helpful Communication Features Noted Amid Challenges in Technical Support Expertise”

3.0
Dec 4, 2025
I gave the product an average rating as when there is a complex issue, I often need to speak with several people and a lot of time to get it remedied. I have learned to make very detailed emails about the problem, as when they transfer me to a new person--I have to start all over explaining the situation. I have also learned to ask the person helping me what changes they made to the configuration/rules in the system so I can document it, and when I am told I need to speak with someone new--I have a very clear knowledge of what has been tried. We did have an issue where after we had Paylocity help us set up multiple rates of pay for different employees, but "weighted averaging" of the overtime rate was never expressed to us (either verbally or through a pop up message) that by federal law--this is required. We are now in the process of self-auditing to make sure our staff we properly paid overtime for the last 3 years. We also needed to work with Paylocity managers to get our configuration of overtime to calculate correctly as "weighted". It took several weeks, and I talked to several people. This is a federal law, and Paylocity being the experts, should have let us know that if we are setting up multiple rates of pay for a person--we needed to change the overtime rate configuration. It was difficult to find someone in Paylocity who knew how to fix this problem. Also, the managers that are first spoken to send us "articles" about the issue. Once I review the article and find it was not helpful, I call back in to speak with the same manager but that manager is unavailable--the new manager I speak with will usually try to send me the same article that did not work. It would be nice if they had different reps that are knowledgeable about certain situations that customers can be referred to for those types of problems. I do have several things I do like about Paylocity. I do get a real person to speak to. This is very important to me. All have been friendly and try to be helpful, even if they do not know how to help. Paylocity has some good features and seems to be improving.

Paylocity Likes & Dislikes

Like

What I like most about Paylocity is the features it offers. The platform brings many HR, payroll, and employee management tools into one place, making it easier to manage a variety of tasks within a single system. The app is also very good and we get no complaints from employees. Paylocity has also made improvements that overall have made for a better experience.

Like

I really like the community feature. Being able to establish different staff groups and communicate with those different groups as needed was a big selling point. I can send a memo to all, or a select group. I can also add attachments and it keeps a record of the information sent to the employees. Employees can comment or ask questions. I also like the ability to store employee / company documents for employees to be able to reference, such as policies and handbooks.

Like

The system has options to help eliminate many of the vendors we were piecing together to do various different tasks for us. It provides one resource for our employees where they can do almost all of the employment related items that they need to. The system is very user friendly even for those who don't work on computers all day and aren't as tech-savvy. In addition, Paylocity seems to be constantly evolving and looking for the next improvement with a clear picture of the roadmap, while taking feedback from users and incorporating that into their future plans, where necessary.

Dislike

What I dislike most is the inconsistency between different modules. Some parts of Paylocity are very user-friendly, while others feel outdated or less efficient, which creates frustration. The modules are also not well streamlined, which can make routine tasks more time-consuming because you have to make changes in several different areas. Also, customer service is hit or miss. Sometimes you get wrong answers and different answers depending on who you talk to. It would also be more helpful if Administrators were able to have more control over adding and changing things in the system instead of having to rely on support to handle.

Dislike

Some important issues take a long time to find the right person at Paylocity who has the knowledge to resolve the issue and a long time to get the system corrected and tested.

Dislike

There is a bit of repetitiveness in the same information being contained in different areas and it is hard to know what information transfers and to understand why the information is in different spots. Some areas of the system are a little more outdated looking and not as aesthetically pleasing, while they still get the job done. There are a few things that seem more basic that we have been surprised that we could not do in Paylocity, like filter the benefits pending approval by division.

Paylocity Offers Smooth Payroll Processes but Lacks Some Desired Administrative Features

    3.0
    Dec 4, 2025
I have worked with a few different payroll platforms and I would say Paylocity is average. It has a user friendly platform and is fairly easy to navigate for both administrative users like myself, and end users. Customer support has always been helpful and knowledgeable for the most part, but there are some features I've had with other platforms that I hope Paylocity will implement in the future. All in all, I do think Paylocity is quite decent for the price point.

First Year Client of Paylocity - Great Improvement in Capabilities and Support Over our Prior Vendor

    4.0
    Dec 4, 2025
Paylocity has provided our employees with an intuitive platform and app that allow them to have self-service capabilities from wherever they are. It has helped us as a business to streamline our HR processes and offers many additional options which we are still investigating to create even more efficiencies. We made the switch from another payroll/HR vendor within the past year and are very happy with most aspects of Paylocity in comparison to our prior vendor. Anything that we are not happy with, we are able to submit enhancement requests for, which are monitored by our account representative and we are provided updates if the enhancement becomes available. It has been a great improvement to feel like we are able to effectuate change to the platform which gets us enhanced functionality as a result.

Detailed Employee Profiles Appreciated Yet Onboarding and Account Issues Need Attention

    4.0
    Dec 4, 2025
What works best to fit our companys needs is the organizational standards Paylocity offers. I enjoy all the options to add more information about our employees and company through the online portal or downloadable application. I hope Paylocity has more updates and improvements in the future, especially pertaining to the "How-To" guides and instructional information provided through the AI chat. I also hope the onboarding section of Paylocity receives a major update as it can be difficult to maneuver around and the "How-To" guides offered specifically on the onboarding end of Paylocity are scarce.
