Workday is the AI platform for managing people, money, and agents. Workday unifies HR and Finance on one platform with AI at the core to empower people at every level with the clarity, confidence, and insights they need to adapt quickly, make better decisions, and deliver outcomes that matter. Workday is used by organizations around the world and across industries.

The Native Reporting Engine and Domain Security model are the platform's strongest assets. Unlike other suites that require a separate data warehouse for complex cross functional analysis, Workday allows us to build Matrix and Composite reports that pull real time data directly from the transactional engine. Because security is baked in at the domain level, we don't have to worry about sensitive compensation data leaking into a general headcount report the system automatically redacts fields based on the viewer's security group. The ability to drill down from a high level dashboard directly into a specific worker's business process history provides a level of auditability that is difficult to replicate in modular HR stacks.
I love how user-friendly the platform is. Workday is intuitive, straightforward, easy to navigate and all our employees enjoyed that aspect, including the look and feel of the product as well.
1. Highly configurable system that allowed us to replace six other HCM/ATS/L&D/Timekeeping applications. 2. Mobile-friendly tools for all employees, which are important for our field staff. 3. Real-time analytics that can be built into dashboards and applications. 4. A great international community of other Workday customers. Because we're all on the same code base, we can share solutions and best practices.
The Business Process rigidity can occasionally be an operational bottleneck. While the Always On nature of the cloud ensures you are on the latest version, the semi-annual Feature Releases require a significant testing overhead to ensure that custom configurations or integrations don't break. Additionally, the user interface for the occasional end user, for example (an employee submitting a one off expense or time off request) can feel non intuitive. The terminology used in the system, such as Supervisory Organizations and Cost Centers, often reflects the back end architecture rather than common employee language, leading to a persistent need for internal training documentation to bridge the gap.
Workday lacks robust support for complex, country-specific regulations/languages/currencies, which makes it difficult for large and global enterprises like ours. It also misses the mark for me on deep functionality and customization with its limited configuration options in talent modules and HR processes.
1. Workday describes themselves as their own first customer. They first build their product for a high-tech multinational company with an international employee population of mostly knowledge workers. New functionality that helps local government ranks lower on the improvement priority list. 2. The in-house nickname for Workday is Click-all-day because many simple actions take multiple mouse clicks to complete. 3. The Workday Benefits module has been static since we launched. It has some quirks that don't match well with public sector benefits for sworn officers who collectively bargain. Not much has changed, which means no fixes or improvements have been implemented or seem to be forthcoming. Workday's announced benefits upgrades are often for features like Belgian pension automation, which doesn't help our US-based workforce.
