Salesforce Data Cloud Likes & Dislikes
The most significant benefits we've found with Salesforce Data Cloud stem from a few key capabilities that drive a more intelligent and unified approach to customer engagement. 1. Identity Resolution: The platform's powerful identity resolution is a standout feature, as it intelligently matches and reconciles data about the same individual from various sources. This is essential for breaking down data silos and creating a single, unified customer profile, which serves as a foundational layer for all personalization efforts. 2. Real-time Data Processing: The ability to process data from ingestion to activation in less than a second is a game-changer. This real-time capability allows us to make faster, more data-driven decisions and act on a customer's live behavior, moving beyond static, batch-based campaigns to more dynamic and timely interactions. 3. Cross-Cloud Activation: Data Cloud's strength is its deep integration across the entire Salesforce Customer 360 platform. Unified data is not siloed; it can be leveraged to drive a wide range of actions, insights, and automations across Sales, Service, and Marketing, enabling a consistent and personalized customer experience at every touchpoint.
Calculated insights are especially helpful in augmenting segmentation to personalize interactions with consumers. Zero-copy ETL minimizes the amount of data movement; would love to see this feature handle a more robust amount of data. The increasingly robust number of integration options to bring data in has minimized IT work and increased integration speed.
The most notable strength of Salesforce Data Cloud is its integration with the broader Salesforce ecosystem. It enables bringing together data from diverse sources into unified customer profiles and (semi-)automatic actions across sales, service, and marketing channels. Its identity resolution and activation features facilitate granular segmentation and automation, helping to personalize interactions all within the Salesforce ecosystem.
The most significant challenges we've encountered are centered in three key areas: 1. Implementation Complexity and Time-to-Value: The initial setup is not a simple plug-and-play process and requires deep planning across data modeling, ingestion pipelines, and governance. The learning curve for data ingestion and transformation can be steep, which often leads to long implementation times before the platform's full value can be realized. 2. Usage-Based Pricing: The credit-based pricing model, unlike traditional per-user licenses, is usage-based, which can be difficult to predict and manage. Ingesting large volumes of data and performing identity resolution are the biggest drivers of cost, and miscalculating these can lead to unexpected budget overruns. The pricing structure can also be confusing to new users, and it requires continuous monitoring to avoid overspending. 3. Data Quality and Governance: The platform's effectiveness is entirely dependent on the quality of the data it receives. A major pitfall is ingesting large volumes of data without first ensuring it is clean and well-structured, which can lead to a lack of accurate insights and a poor outcome. Without a strong focus on data governance and an established data hygiene culture, the foundation for AI is weak, making it difficult for the platform to function effectively.
Need detailed insight into errors, the ability to stop processes which are stuck/long running, and the ability to receive error notifications of failed processes. Removing data from the system is challenging (to address changes in business needs, archival of data, etc. ). Need increased visibility into consumption and process dependencies to control costs.
The biggest drawbacks of Salesforce Data Cloud are its high costs (including licensing, implementation, and ongoing operations) along with a steep learning curve for new users. The semi-manual mapping of customer profile attributes can be rather tedious.

Salesforce Data Cloud Delivers Unification and Real-Time Insights, Following a Strategic and Intentional Initial Setup.
My overall experience with Salesforce Data Cloud has been defined by a significant, positive shift in how we understand our customer base. While the initial phase of data preparation required a concentrated effort to get our architecture aligned, the payoff has been well worth it. The platform has effectively eliminated our data silos, creating a single source of truth for customer information. This has allowed us to move beyond fragmented, single-channel campaigns to a more strategic, holistic approach. The ability to visualize and act on our customer data in real time has been a game-changer, and it has empowered our teams to be more proactive and data-driven. - CHIEF CURIOSITY COUNSELOR<50M USDServices (non-Government)Review Source
Powerful data unification and activation in Salesforce Data Cloud comes with high implementation demands
Salesforce Data Cloud provides a platform for unifying, segmenting, and activating customer profile data. It can integrate data from various sources, enabling segmentation and personalization of communication with the customer across channels. While the user interface is familiar to Salesforce users, the initial implementation and data ingestion can be complex as (currently) most of the mapping of profile-related data has to at least be manually verified. The community and documentation are generally strong (as is usual with Salesforce products), but large deployments may face performance or configuration challenges requiring expert assistance. Overall, Salesforce Data Cloud delivers business value by driving customer engagement, though success depends on a clear strategy (goals), data preparation (integration and mapping), and access to general Salesforce expertise (support). - PRODUCT OWNER10B+ USDTransportationReview Source
Streamlined Integration Between Salesforce and Snowflake Boosts Data Sharing Reliability
very easy setup experience. Salesforce provided a lot of supporting resources like tutorials, detailed documentation and specific person to support us during the implementation process. Data Cloud helped us replace an existing file ingestion solution and improved data sharing reliability and speed between Salesforce and Snowflake - Director of IT Services10B+ USDConsumer GoodsReview Source
Integration Options Improve Speed, But Cost Transparency and Error Handling Lacking
Overall the product is meeting expectations. Lack of transparency in the application of the cost of consumption prior to running solutions (e.g. segments) would improve the experience. - Technical Account Director50M-1B USDIT ServicesReview Source
