Alation continues to evolve as a platform - transforming from a data catalog to a robust Agentic Data Intelligence platform. The application has met its need in our organization, and we would love to see this extend further than just the standard cataloging/data discovery features.

Collibra has proven to be a robust data governance and catalog platform that effectively supports modern data architecture patterns. The platform successfully bridges technical metadata management with business data governance, creating a unified catalog experience for both data consumers and producers. What has worked well: - The platform's integration capabilities enable automated metadata synchronization with cloud data platforms, eliminating manual tagging efforts and ensuring consistency across data ecosystems. - The comprehensive data catalog provides rich metadata fields that enable effective data discovery and governance. What hasn't worked well: - The multi-stage status workflow (Candidate --> Under Review --> Accepted) can create confusion for users trying to discover data, as assets aren't searchable until they reach "Accepted" status - Dependencies on manual metadata enrichment processes can introduce bottlenecks despite automated technical metadata capabilities

I've been involved with our Informatica IDMC rollout for roughly two years now, mostly from the infrastructure and governance side. I don't build mappings or transformations myself -- I manage the cloud environment it connects into, handle the networking for Secure Agents, and help teams get onboarded. From that angle, I'd give it a solid 4 out of 5. It does what we need it to do, but getting there took more effort than anyone planned for. The core reason for the high marks is that before IDMC, our data cataloging situation was a mess. We had a sprawling hybrid footprint -- on-prem Oracle and SQL Server databases, AWS S3 buckets, Glue catalogs, data lakes served through Trino -- and nobody had a single view of what existed where. IDMC gave our governance team that view. After about six months of scanning and profiling, they were finally able to answer questions such as "where does this customer field live?" without pinging three different platform teams.

Whilst the data catalog is a good tool for an organisation at a low level of maturity, we soon realised it didn't compare to other offerings

Our experience with ALEX has been generally positive, especially in consolidating multiple data governance functions into a single platform. Before adopting it, we were using separate tools for cataloging, lineage tracking, and data quality, which created fragmentation. ALEX helped bring these capabilities together, making it easier to manage metadata centrally. The platform is particularly useful in improving visibility into data assets and understanding how data flows across systems. However, adoption took time, mainly due to the learning curve and the need to align internal processes and policy enforcement, which require careful configuration to deliver consistent results.

It has been working well for us. Experience within the team has also been quite good.

The product delivers on what we expected - a highly functional data catalog service that is a capable tool for data engineers, analysts, and data scientists alike. Sales & Customer Success teams have been helpful and friendly and have given us helpful guidance as we've onboarded our technology and people to the tool.

Overall, DataGalaxy provides a strong business-friendly data governance experience with intuitive data cataloging and collaboration features, though it may require upfront effort to fully align with complex enterprise governance models.
