I have communicated back to the vendor that the experience I have had with them should be used as a 'case study' as to how to make this kind of relationship work well. We have had a working relationship where my team is responsible for delivering an IT Business Service to the business. The vendor team has has the responsiblity for the software platform that delivers the IT application services component of the IT Business Service. I have held them accountable for that service and provided them the authority to deliver that service. This arrangement has worked exceedly well in my area of accountability.
