“Strong documentation backbone for a small IT shop, but Kaseya ecosystem lock-in and pricing model give us pause”

4.0
May 12, 2026
We ran a POC of IT Glue to evaluate whether it could replace our current mix of spreadsheets, shared drives, and tribal knowledge for IT documentation. For context, we're a community bank with a small IT team, not an MSP so our needs are more internally facing. The core documentation features worked well during the POC. Structured templates for assets, configurations, and passwords were immediately useful, and we could see how it would help us during audits and exams. That said, the platform is clearly built with MSPs as the primary audience, and some of the workflow assumptions don't translate cleanly to an internal IT department at a regulated financial institution. The pricing per user adds up fast for a team our size, especially when you factor in that most of the advanced integrations are geared towards Kaseya's own product stack, which we don't use.

“Streamlined import process offset by challenging asset management interface”

Solid efficiency when onboarding and managing assets, older user interface can disrupt processes though like finding assets and maintaining asset inventory logic, especially for new personnel managing assets.

Solid documentation backbone for MSPs, but be ready to invest time in structure and clean-up

    4.0
    Feb 19, 2026
Overall, my experience has been positive. IT Glue has made a noticeable difference in how organized and accessible our documentation is across the team. Day-to-day support work is faster because engineers can usually find what they need without chasing tribal knowledge. That said, the quality of the experience is directly tied to how disciplined you are with documentation standards and ongoing maintenance. It’s not a “set and forget” platform — it rewards consistency and governance. When managed well, it becomes a very reliable operational backbone; when neglected, it can become cluttered. In our case, the benefits have outweighed the friction, and it’s now a core part of our tooling.

User Sentiment About IT Glue
Reviewer Insights for: IT Glue
Performance of IT Glue Across Market Features

IT Glue Likes & Dislikes

Like

Structured documentation templates: The out-of-the-box asset types and flexible document templates make it easy to organize configurations, network diagrams, and SOPs in a way that's searchable. During our POC we were able to stand up a usable knowledge base faster than expected. Password management with audit trail: The built-in vault with versioning and access controls is solid. Being able to tie credentials directly to the assets and configurations they belong to is a real time-saver and helps with compliance evidence during exams. Relationship mapping between assets: Being able to casually link servers, applications, contacts, and documentation together gives you context you don't get from a spreadsheet. This was one of the features that made the strongest impression during the POC because it mirrors how we think about our environment.

Like

Efficiency provided during onboarding. We were able to import and transfer over assets both manually and automatically, which really provided great help as a deployment option. This worked for us across the board for our network appliances, stock devices, credentials, etc.

Like

IT Glue has become our single source of truth for client and internal documentation. The biggest win is the structure once you set it up properly, everything has a place: configs, passwords, assets, SOPs, and relationships between them. Relationship mapping is especially powerful because it helps connect systems, users, and services in a way that reflects the real world. The password vault and flexible asset templates are also very practical for day-to-day operations. Its one of those tools that really pays off over time as your data matures.

Dislike

MSP-centric design: A lot of the platform's structure assumes you're managing multiple client organizations. For an internal IT department at a single company, some of the multi-tenant concepts are unnecessary overhead and can make navigation feel clunky. Kaseya ecosystem lock-in: The best integrations are reserved for other Kaseya/Datto products (RMM, Autotask, etc.). If you're not in that ecosystem, and we weren't, the integration story is thinner than the marketing suggests. We use other tools, and there's no native connector for most of what we run. Pricing doesn't scale well for small teams, with a 5-user minimum on Enterprise, the cost adds up quickly for a small bank IT department that just needs solid documentation and password management. The value proposition is easier to justify if you're an MSP billing a client, but harder when you're an internal cost center.

Dislike

Again, it'd have to be the user interface. It's both daunting from a new personnel's perspective when needing to start managing tens to hundreds of assets, but is also concerning for even experienced asset management personnel based on layout/logic for the assets.

Dislike

The interface can feel slow and a bit clunky at times, especially when navigating larger environments or heavily linked documentation. Initial setup and data normalization take more effort than expected if you dont enforce standards early, things can get messy fast. Reporting and advanced search/filtering arent as strong as they could be, which makes bulk reviews and audits more manual than Id like.
