The flexibility of the product is second to none, as an academic institution we present a unique challenge which is that our product is students; but there is an achievement component on the students for the agencies who recruit them. This is easily configured in the product. The ELT is incredibly easy to use and makes sorting and transforming data fun. Yes, fun. The range of options to control the product is exceptional, being able to view tables & calculations in real time through excel and import using the same excel; control calculations in the same sheet; or via API, or even command prompt
The system is very flexible and friendly to build and create things.
The compensation module is highly flexible and virtually customizable out of the box. The ELT/data transformation tool they launched a few years back is a powerful addition & has allowed our company the ability to analyze high volumes of data in a matter of minutes & provide necessary corrections/input directly into the compensation model which has saved us hours of research & manual processing time.
Error checking in large models can be difficult; I wish the product had a test function similar to it's ELT environment where errors can be traced back to source rather than using a binary search Some basic functionality like copy and paste on a large scale doesn't function properly as all the calculations search for dependencies simultaneously and it causes issues. Finally; the mystery of a trailing underscore: some tables and columns can be named with a trailing underscore eg Payee_ which then disappears and becomes Payee forever - however when trying to search or link; you need to apply the underscore which is now invisible. This is a mystery behaviour
The product is very difficult to deal with locked calculations which makes the reviews, fixes and updates to be very complicated. The service also was not up to the height of what was sold. Several of the objectives were not achieved several times.
The support process can be very slow depending upon the complexity of the issue you are facing. I also believe the product enhancements/capabilities could benefit from a stringer operational/end user perspective.

The customer success team has been very kind and attentive; the problem starts when working with the developers. They promised a lot of things that couldn't be delivered due to time. What was supposed to be a couple of months to go live transformed into 3 years where we accept, we are still finding issues with our data, and we are still having issues with the system. Varicent is really a very flexible tool, but sometimes we really felt they didn’t meet our needs and tried to make our process go into their already prebuilt system. We feel they didn´t review anything on our previous Varicent system and left the discoveries to a general chat on what was needed.
