1. vSphere

By Broadcom (VMware)

4.3
(1873 Ratings)

vSphere is essential in how we administer our VMWare virtual environment. It's a centralized tool that allows administrators full control over snapshots, backups, VM administration and migration. Features are intuitive and robust with options for monitoring, configuring, setting permissions, allocating datastores and networks, snapshots and updates. Features a status bar at the bottom to see what active tasks that are queued up. When you perform a task, like deleting a snapshot, you can see its progress. Integrating vSphere locally with SaaS Cloud assets is seamless and not too difficult to configure. Overall, it's an essential companion when managing multiple ESXi hosts and virtual workloads.

2. Hyper-V

By Microsoft

4.4
(727 Ratings)

Hyper-V is a robust tool which offers very good stability. Since it's integrated into Windows like an app, it feels native and super fast. The type-1 architecture ensures that guest machines run with excellent memory management. The VHDX storage resilience and the ease of creating quick checkpoints are really a great advantage of Hyper-V/ However the experience is dragged down by a dated user interface and a frustratingly complex virtual networking setup that often requires manual troubleshooting when switching between Wi-fi and ethernet.

We have used Nutanix Cloud Platform in production for more than 8 years in our on-premises environment. Overall, our experience has been very positive. The platform has been stable, easy to operate, and has helped simplify infrastructure management compared with traditional three-tier architecture. From an operational perspective, Nutanix has reduced complexity by integrating compute, storage, and virtualization management into a more unified platform. This has helped improve day-to-day administration, lifecycle management, and scalability. Our experience with the platform has generally been reliable, and it has proven to be a strong option for organizations looking to modernize infrastructure and evaluate alternatives to traditional hypervisor-heavy environments.

Our experience with RHEL has been consistently excellent. The platform is extremely stable, secure and well supported making it suitable for critical workloads. It integrates well across on-premises and virtualized environments. While the subscription costs are higher than community alternativesm the enterprise support and stability justifies the investment.

Red Hat Virtualization is a great. A cost-effective way to get your servers into a virtual environment. Some love it, some hate it, but if you're familiar with the Linux environment, this may be the answer.

Reliable for the workloads we're already running on it. However, due to it officially being a legacy product that is no longer receiving updates / new features, we are not using it for any new workloads.

Weve had a genuinely positive experience with Proxmox. Its one of those platforms that just does what it says on the tin. We moved from a more expensive virtualization stack and were honestly surprised at how stable and capable Proxmox turned out to be. Its been rock-solid in production, easy to scale, and gives us easy to scale, and gives us enterprise-level functionality without the enterprise licensing shock. What has worked well is clustering, high availability, backups, and the overall flexibility of the platform. The open-source foundation also gives us confidence and transparency. What hasnt worked as well is the learning curve at the beginning especially if youre coming from some other tool and some of the documentation can feel a bit fragmented. But once youre comfortable with it, its extremely powerful.
