We had used Delinea Secrets server in a self-deployed model, integrating with our Entra ID for single sign on. The product itself was useful, with useful search functionality to locate secrets that someone else on our team had stored somewhere. However, our platform team locked down API or CLI access to it. As a result, none of our CI / CI pipelines ever used the product, and we ultimately only used it as a team password manager. Beyond that, we found few community resources available: "Secret Server" is such a generic term to search for. 2. CyberArk Privileged Access Manager

Customers want a PAM solution, so we looked at Cyber Ark to reduce the risks associated with privilege sprawl. It provides advanced auditing, video recording and credential rotation capabilities that are intended to add value to a secure by design methodology. The journey thus far has been mixed. While the platform offers strong features, there are technical gaps. Password rotation only works in specific setups - don't expect it to work with all configurations. If you use scanners or zealot firewalls in your own environment, expect some features such as 365 access etc to not work as it requires an add-on in your browser which most environments will look to block. Check-ins and check-outs don't work reliably. Administrators have to constantly unlock accounts, even while following best practices. Support is okay - they do help but to a point, as if it's hosted on your own environment they can't help as much. When it does work, and in the right setups (PAM servers hosted locally in the customer's environment), it works fine for the most part (minus check in/outs). I have to knock 2 stars off on the overall rating. Training, ease of use, and accessing support in an easy manner are a BIG issue. Training would be the biggest. Some key points: limited live training, live training courses are scheduled more for people in India than the US. archived recordings, web based (self paced) training. Using the console can be daunting when implementing or learning the product. This product has excelled in helping us fix security vulnerabilities with how we handled local admin permissions for tasks such as installing and updating applications, and reducing our overall ticketing volume. Rather than having admin permissions/access assigned locally based on user role within the organization, we were able to overhaul the previous structure and manage admin permissions based on specific applications and processes. The setup within the admin console was easy to manage. We linked our databases, which made is easy to integrate groups and users for permission assignment, and separation of role based applications vs. business based apps for all users. We're still in the process of deploying the software to all units in our fleet, but the experience so far has been great.
