I think Jira is a really helpful and powerful tool. It pretty much lets you do anything, which however also means that it can be a little overwhelming. I rely on Jira for my day-to-day work, which is why it is for us, but I also find it to be very complex and feels a bit like a maze.

I have seen Jira operate on both sides--meaning, as a ticket submitter and as someone receiving a support request--and the platform is clearly optimized to ensure the most important work gets done first. From a project management perspective, it has helped us organize and keep workload under control while simultaneously ensuring we move the needle forward for all departments and projects.

I like that you have so much freedom and opportunity to set up practically any rules for your workflows as you want. In our company, we have many different teams who are part of different as well as overlapping workflows. We need to have great flexibility to adapt any service to our work and Jira provides us with just that.

Like

Moving our quarterly OKRs into JIRA made us able to create better alignment between all of the teams in Technical Solutions, providing opportunities for feedback and comment for our 1200 employees. JIRA tasks and stories make it easy to leverage Agentic AI to provide updates and share additional visibility into our team's progress for our upper leadership, which is saving a considerable amount of time for our engineers and PMs.

Dislike

There is nothing I've noticed so far that I dislike about the Jira platform.

Dislike

Due to the incredible amount of flexibility, getting used to and learning how to work in Jira can be a bit overwhelming. Especially if you are an Admin or any form of team lead over a board or a project. I don't find all the settings to be very intuitive and each new set up takes a lot of tries and fails before we get to the finish line.

Dislike

The user interface is still pretty grim, which makes it slightly harder when integrating non-technical teams. The possibility to do tailor administration is a double-edge sword as some of our team over-complexify their setup, which impacts scalability Enablement around AI add-ons could be improved

Is anyone using a central AI to report on project status in realtime highlighting dependencies and bottlenecks. Or are you just connecting project management systems (MS Project, Jira, Primavera) to dashboards with Power BI or Tableau?

Leading indicators are super useful because they give you a heads-up about potential problems instead of just telling you what’s already gone wrong. We are using an AI powered tool ( can't be named here, I guess) that gets you insights that help you notice issues before they escalate. Plus, it really encourages everyone to be transparent about project status so the whole team knows what’s going on from the get-go. This openness motivates everyone to take responsibility and helps build strong teams that tackle problems early on and stay focused on their goals together. Traditional reporting often comes too late to make necessary changes. By being proactive and embracing transparency with some AI support, teams can adapt and improve on their own. The key is to catch issues early and empower teams to make adjustments as needed. AI plays a role in all team decisions, like a performance coach, and also helps out at the management level. It identifies risks and suggests improvements for senior executives. I hope that helps? 🙂
