SAP was founded in 1972 and is headquartered in Walldorf, Germany. The company employs over 105,000 people globally and develops software solutions for enterprise resource planning (ERP) and related business functions. SAP’s early products, SAP R/2 and SAP R/3, were widely adopted for managing core business processes. Its current ERP platform, SAP S/4HANA, uses in-memory computing to support data-intensive operations and integrates capabilities such as artificial intelligence and machine learning. SAP offers a portfolio of software applications that support various business functions across industries. These applications are designed to operate on a unified digital platform. As of 2025, SAP reports over 230 million cloud users and provides more than 100 solutions. The company’s offerings are used by organizations to manage finance, human resources, procurement, supply chain, and other operational areas.

The 'work from anywhere' flexibility is by far my favorite feature. Because it's cloud-based, the performance is fast and reliable whether I am logging in from the office network or working from home. On top of that, having access to real-time data means I am never waiting on batch updates or looking at outdated information to do my job.
Despite the migration from an on-premise system, the implementation was very straightforward and well-supported by SAP consulting. System maintenance is now almost entirely handled by the vendor. The integration with SAP BTP and SuccessFactors is a major advantage, allowing us to access data from these other systems.
Very efficient systems for mid-level managers which allow tracking and reporting scalable data, e.g. staff development, training and learning records, performance analysis
1. The initial learning curve: Because the system is so robust and powerful, it takes a bit of time to learn all the shortcuts and fully utilize everything it has to offer. 2. Strict security timeouts: The cloud system logs you out relatively quickly if you step away from your desk. This is completely understandable for data security, but it occasionally interrupts workflow. 3. Dependence on admins for deeper customization: While I can easily customize my own daily dashboard, changing deeper workflow steps or adding entirely new data fields requires submitting a ticket to our IT team.
The product offers less flexibility than previous versions. Cost transparency is not as clear as it was with the old system. While the APIs are available, some are difficult to integrate, and finding suitable connectors can be challenging.
For mid-sized organisations that practice in certain industries and being non-for-profit or charity status this could be of a high cost and resource intensive (i.e. quite expensive to implement, maintain, educate management on the s=usage particulars and sustain in the future, e.g. there could be rapid licensing or consulting cost increases).
