My experience with AWS, specifically for machine learning model productionization, has been largely positive. We use the complete ecosystem. AWS offers several highly scalable services such as SageMaker, Step Functions and Lambdas to facilitate deployment. We also use AWS Redshift to store metadata for the files stored on the AWS S3 bucket. We also use EC2 instances to set up environments for testing our machine learning models. The great part is that since the EC2 is on the same account as other resources, we can access our AWS services and data directly from the EC2 instance. The complexity and potential costs can be challenging to manage, for instance, step functions are billed for each step instead of for a single input/output. IBM Cloud has mitigated all risks we had with aging on-premises equipment. Performance is exceptional and the end users are delighted. We've been live for 9-months so far and have not had any significant technical issues. In terms of total cost of ownership, IBM Cloud was the lowest cost of all the scenarios we reviewed in detail when planning replacement of the legacy hardware. Update: We have been live for over 4-years now. In that time we have not had any major issues, no P1 issues and no outages. The service is totally reliable and still performs exceptionally well.
