The ease of integration is a major advantage. It can be easily enabled by just checking one option in the exchange mailbox and users can access the archived emails directly from outlook or OWA. Since its M365 IT admins can control it online and centrally from the EAC. They can manage retention policies and can create custom policies too. The litigation hold and eDiscovery are robust features. Also this being online makes it highly available which means users can access it from anywhere if they can access their email, they do not necessarily have to be on their office laptop. its a great feature for heavy email users or for the ones who have been the company for along time and are reaching the storage capacity of their standard email box.
I personally like the feature archiving our important documents and not getting them deleted for future use for which Microsoft has been doing a pretty decent job in saving our files
Ease of adaption by Organization and its usability by users.
One has to be careful with standard and custom retention policies. Once archive mailbox is enabled, it takes quite long to move the emails as per the policies. i believe its 1-2GB per day and if a user is nearing his storage limit for main mailbox, this can give him a breather but it will take many days to fully move the mails over.
Sometimes Archiving our emails doesnt follow its policy and gets deleted as per the standard policy though we change the policy of the files not to get deleted. I need that is something which they need to fix
Technically it's the right fit, however, the license cost is a little high. administration works fine with a specific browser.
