ML based anomaly detection delivered results right out of the box. We effortlessly onboarded and scanned datasets of any size and complexity with any unexpected issues automatically flagged. Additionally, Telmai's open architecture provided seamless integration across our diverse data storage systems, allowing us to monitor and ensure data quality across a vast and disparate data landscape. It can seamlessly connect to all major databases and data storage technologies, such as - but not limited to - GCS, S3, BigQuery, Snowflake, Apache Trino, Starburst, RDBMSes. Its data quality binning functionality takes bad data out of our pipelines without the need to take any manual actions or pause/stop the pipelines ensuring uninterrupted processing of data while maintaining the overall quality.
- Deploying within our GCP private cloud was very easy. - The tool is extremely easy to navigate and use. - Onboarding new assets and writing policies is easy and intuitive. - The investigator features in the tool make it easy to understand issues without needing to navigate outside the tool or do complex root cause analysis for most cases.
Monitoring the inflow of multiple data streams into a data warehouse can be extremely labor intensive, especially if you are in an industry where data standards and transfer protocols are not well-established, as in our business, advertising, where partners often change content formats and structures without notice. Telmai's software offers the power of AI with the ability to learn the intricacies and nuances of our data streams, flagging changes that represent anomalies that need attention.
Nothing major so far. It checked all the boxes for us.
- The tool's alert / incident management system is immature, requiring the use of separate incident management tools and operational systems to track bugs identified by the tool. - API token creation / management needs to be done via APIs rather than via a UI interface as is common for most tools. - Integrations to other data management tools, like a Data Catalog, are missing as of writing this post.
As with any AI product, there is a need to spend time and effort training the system. There is also a learning curve for the data analysts so that they fully understand the true capabilities of the software. However, these requirements are not ponderous and still represent a significant reduction in time and effort versus trying to build similar capabilities in-house.

Telmai: A cloud native observability tool that is fast to deploy, onboard, and scale
Telmai was very easy to deploy and maintain compared to other tools I have used in this space. The UI is intuitive and easy to use, onboarding data to the tool is very simple, and using out of the box ML based data observability (ex., data drift, freshness, schema drift, etc.) is as easy as flipping a toggle. It works with all of the cloud based technologies we use in our stack, and is forward looking with a focus on the ability to work with open data formats (i.e., iceberg). I have been using Telmai to scan large data assets (hundreds of columns, some with nest formats / json, billions of rows), and have had no issues beyond initial cluster sizing setup one time during initial deployment, which the Telmai team was able to help with and resolve quickly. It is an excellent data observability and data quality tool that can be used by any technical skill user
