iboss Zero Trust SASE

The solution's versatility is its greatest strength. We are on the ZTNA offering and are keen to look at other services that iboss provides. It provides multiple options and paths to achieve a particular objective depending on the scenario or complexity of the use case. It balances security requirements and ease of use for both admins and end-users. The logs are responsive and provide granular and meaningful insights, helping to resolve issues faster. The user interface is simple and responsive, and once you've familiarised yourself with how the product works, you quickly feel at home.

iboss sales pitch was absolutely mind blowing. The live demo was also super interesting and dynamic. The product interface seemed modern.

The ease of deployment, low administrative overhead once running in production, and a selection of quality features that all work.

While not iboss specific, as this is true of most solutions in this space, the transition from traditional VPNs to SASE and a cloud-native mindset requires a considerable mental shift. The cloud-native approach abstracts the underlying layers, and occasionally you wish you had the ability to go in and control them directly - such as logging into the CLI to manually add a static route, for example. I do appreciate that doing this goes against the cloud model and could cause issues with repeatability when scaling out and scaling in. This is not necessarily a flaw in the product but something to be mindful of. We implemented the solution while iboss was introducing a new routed approach in addition to their already established proxy capabilities. While having both options worked brilliantly and in our favour, it was a learning curve, albeit in a positive way.

There is a lot to talk about here. First off, the sales pitch was inaccurate and lots of promises made that just fell short when using the product. The SASE product is extremely unstable and unreliable, its behaviour changes by itself therefore it's super hard to troubleshoot. The worst part after the product instability is the lack of support, clearly something iboss has to work on if they want to step up their game.

It's more about what I need rather than dislike. Reporting needs a facelift and a feature overhaul. URL policy rules from the old way of making policies needs to be married to the new ZTNA platform and a real-time health dashboard for all of the integrations is needed.
