StorageGRID is easy to configure/tailor once installed so that it can meet our requirements. It has a very clear configuration and monitoring interface and has made a real difference in the way we view our storage tiers
This product did as advertised and they continue to improve it, not only software but hardware. If maintained properly (upgrades paying attention to alerts) it gives years of dependable service.
The main reason for our company to choose StorageGrid as our Tier 2 storage is the massive scalability it provides, while remaining easy to implement and to add drives/disks shelves. The second main advantage of the StorageGrid is the simplified distribution for content that the library provides with centralized management and load balancing. Finally, the solution has proven reliable and robust. We know we can count on the StorageGrid to keep our content safe and accessible.
The main weakness is not being able to see what the internal housekeeping tasks are doing and what their processing priorities are during the day or night - however they do work very well
Front line support. NetApp does not pay attention to training their front line people and it is painful to get to tier 2 or even an escalation engineer.
One the struggles we have is the cost of the platform, we are constantly looking at different options with different costs. StorageGrid is hard to beat, but it is also costly. I cannot list any other point I dislike about the product.
