I personally love creating extensions and customizing our reports to give the best user experience in reporting. It actually is how I learned to code and dig deep into web development.
Easy to use UI feature and role based access control.
As an administrator, one of the most rewarding aspects of IBM Cognos Analytics is the unified control it offers, allowing you to manage complex enterprise needs from a single, streamlined interface.
My main gripe has to do with the limited extendibility and UI of the dashboards. Creating custom visualizations is pretty difficult, the filters are poorly designed, and overall usability is lacking. I think reporting is so strong that IBM is making reports more featured to replicate the dashboard experience. I also think documentation on their API's for developers could use a lot more examples and capabilities.
It requires a lot of technical skills to run the application on a server including upgrade, issues. It is not performant when handling large data set.
Cognos is an enterprise-grade powerhouse, but that comes with a steep learning curve. Admins often find the reporting module and certain hidden configuration settings confusing without dedicated training.
