I really like the effectiveness of this product. Barring any particular hardware or software issues, backup are always consistent and have a high level of compression and deduplication.
The software is easy to configure with a very usable interface. Reporting and alerting services function well. Upgrades and patching has worked without issue.
First, backup deduplication reduces data size and thus reduces storage costs. The ability to perform avoids having to restore the entire VM if you only want to restoree a single file. I also really like the drag-and-drop system for configuring backups (schedule/storage location/retention)
It would be desirable to have a cloud destination integrated into the solution and at an affordable price.
Retrieval can be a little tedious and slow but has never failed. Good performance relies on using a pretty robust hardware setup. Technical support can be frustrating. I had one backup issue that took them two months to resolve.
The duration of backups and data optimization often takes a very long time. Sometimes the data fails to be saved for no particular reason, forcing us to restart it manually.

I wish i would know before about Altaro
First of all Altato VM Backup is easy to install, configure and use. The interface is neat, simple but has all the features you need. You drag and drop the options to configure: it's intuitive, you could all the tasks without reading any instructions. The first setup has a tutorial which drives you to the first configuration. Support is fast and always keen and all the questions/problems are resolved. A really good value overall, indeed. Better install it on windows server machine; anyway you can install it on windows 10, but it's not fully supported. The program runs fast without lagging; you can also install the backup management on a secondary machine. I use Altaro with HyperV and VMware environments. Personally all the issues I had (nothing serious, anyway) were quickly resolved by Altaro support. Switching to Altaro: A Competent and Affordable Backup Solution
Usually I was using other backup software to manage Virtual Machines backups, but after I discover Altaro VM Backup I really recommend at least to try it. First of all the price is very competitive and its installation is easy and the tutorial will help you in the initial settings. I use Altaro VM with MIcrosoft Hyper-V Virtual Machines and with the Vmware ones too. I installed Altaro Backup on windows 2012 server (also of type "Core"), 2016 and 2019 without any problem. Windows 10 is not supported (you may try to install on it but it may not works as expected). Tha dashboard shows you a resume of you backup system, with the last backups logs in the right. The interface allows you a sort of drag and drop in the section Backup Locations after you enter the details of the nodes and backup storages destionations. So you then choose the Virtual Machines to backup, where to save and at what time (go under backup settings - schedule settings) the backup will take place. Just remember to click save on the button located in the right corner, sometimes you may miss it. The backup section will show the status of your backups (and of course you can choose to take a backup immediately in case of need). If you have any question you can contact the support, via chat or email. The reply is usually fast and resolutive. You can set daily reports via email to check the backups status. You can also take replicas of your backups. Managing you backups (and restoring them) is easy and intuitive: you can have your Virtual Machine working again in a very short time, just go to the section sandbox and verification or restore. - 10B+ USDIT ServicesReview Source

Altaro VM Backup and Replication is a masterpiece software, even more in relation to the price at which its offered. Compare to other products we're used to work in the past it offered more features, better performance at lower price. Furthermore license are offered as "lifetime license". This is great since more products are moving toward annual subscriptions.
