What I like most is the transition from managing backup to governing data availability. The combination of hardware agnostic flexibility, which lets us stay on our Dell/VMware stack, and the absolute certainty provided by automated SureBackup verification, gives our entire team the confidence that we can meet any recovery demand or regulatory audit with minimal manual effort.
Support and Services, Vulnerability fixes, Integration with major Virtualization
I really like how reliable the product is, the backups run consistently once we have configured them and the restores are straightforward. With regards to the service, their support is easy to get on a call and they are knowledgeable and helpful.
The biggest lesson we learned was the importance of configuring vSAN-aware backup policies. We initially saw minor latency during backup windows, which we resolved by utilizing Veeam's HotAdd transport mode. additional while the product is technically superior, the shift towards a subscription only VUL model introduces some budget unpredictability due to annual price escalations.
Features aren't in a state where you can rely on them.
My main dislike about the product has to do with the security more so than the functions of the product. Out of all of the applications/products we use, this unfortunately has had the most amount of high severity CVE's that have affected the product. While I understand that all applications do have high severity CVE's, I personally feel out of all the products we use, this has had the most, on the other hand to this, Veeam is quick to get patches out to patch the application and resolve this as soon as possible.
