Things which I liked the most about Codee : (i) I found this as an efficiency booster tool which drastically cuts the review time by flagging the issues in code. (ii) It does not only identify the problem but also gives the clear info about how the issue can resolved, truly I liked this feature most. (iii) Also its seamless integration in our github workflow makes this as most useful and obvious tool to use. (iv) We observed it also ensure uniform code quality across contributors...which is very helpful in case of large teams.
Static analysis - analyzes every line of code without executing it, and detects issues related to code correctness, modernization, and more. Legacy code modernization feature - suggests transformations of code to up to date modern standards. Integration - as tricky as it is to set up, as useful it is. Can be easily integrated with CI/CD to automatically check code on every PR.
Codee really gave us an in depth analysis of code optimizations at the compiler level for our legacy languages and labeled the issues effectively along with categorizing the optimizations and defects which was really amazing. We are using LLM's in the current environment but felt the were lacking in some respects when it comes to legacy code. Codee excels in that regard and is an expert in figuring out optimizations which even the LLM couldn't spot in few iterations after using different models.
While using this tool, we observed some issues also : (i) Sometimes it miss bugs which are hidden in complex logics which a human reviewer would catch. (ii) In some occasions, we saw it flags in non-issues and suggests us unnecessary changes which requires manual process to review it. (iii) Sometimes, we skip all manual reviews based on believing Codee outputs...but later we found that it has missed some important internal bug. (iv) The technical support can work on updating the tool bugs more quickly and they can release updated version quickly.
Language limited - Not useful for other languages than C and C Automatic fixes are not perfect and still need review. It reduces the time needed for review, but doesn't take the task away. Learning curve and setup process. There's still a large amount of work to put in your linting rules, etc.
