There are no use cases or products where Spectrum Protect can't be used, it's really one product for everything you want to backup or restore.
The ability to ingest large volumes of data in a reasonable time period. The simplicity of file level restore for physical servers. Backups are file based instead of Job based.
Stability, wide array of supported applications and infrastructure, the Operations Center!
The implementation and configuration is really only for users who know the product well - and even then you might have problems to really find out all the possibilities the product offers.
Inconsistent software quality. Complexity of system. Daily care and feeding required.
Performance tuning, system optimization, architecture. Granted, these are largely because I am not an expert in these areas and an expert makes things much easier.

Spectrum Protect is a swiss-army knife with a huge array of customization and configuration options, allowing scalability from small to very large. That is its strength and its weakness. We have never had an issue where we were not able to perform recoveries for data that Spectrum Protect backed up or archived.
