Nuxeo is an extremely modern and flexible solution that could be seamlessly integrated into our complex and heterogeneous landscape. The transformation of the archive with >1 billion objects was completed within just over 12 month in collaboration with an experienced integration partner. Hyland responded very individually to our use case right from the market research phase.

From implementation to our eventual migration out, our experience with this vendor was negative. The product was stable, but without internal development support it quickly felt stale and unusable. It was impossible to make simple UI changes on the fly, and simple updates required a full development sprint. There were constant hidden costs and any changes had to be outsourced to expensive third-party developers. Basic features that are available out-of-the-box with other less expensive products require customization that is not supported in perpetuity.
I have also never experienced such unprofessional behavior from a vendor. From the get go, our CSM was extremely condescending and sometimes downright hostile. Their responses to questions were unhelpful, and it was clear that they did not read my emails thoroughly nor care to understand our needs.

Nuxeo's one fits all approach enables every conceivable scenario from standard use cases out of the box with a powerful no-code / low-code approach and flexible front-ends to highly customized integrations. The API first strategy enabled rapid adaption to all circumstances in the environment. Only minor adjustments were required to the peripheral systems (both SAP and various individual applications).
Product was stable.
From the platform perspective, Scalability, Performance and Enabling Content Innovation are unique characteristics, in addition to excellent after sales support and services
License model is basically fair (not fix related to amount of users or data), but in the beginning not easy to understand. At least it depends on how much traffic towards Nuxeo is generated overall and therefore how many paid instances are necessary to fit the needs. But definition of an instance is not clearly matchable to a classic environment so preliminary calculation could be difficult.
Any customization, even simple UI tweaks, required expensive custom development.
Nuxeo's native file synch and share module is very limited in depth, and requires a significant revamp

Great Extensible Platform
We made the right choice when we picked Nuxeo as our DAM replacement. The platform is extremely adaptable and flexible with the ability to create our own custom UIs on the powerful platform components. Hyland appears dedicated to investing in the product long-term. There have been some growing pains with production deployment support over a period of time, but that seems to have been ironed out. They introduced a self-publishing dashboard, which has greatly sped up our ability to deploy to lower environments. The AI service, as mentioned, leaves a lot to be desired. We were able to introduce some successful ability to auto-tag our media with custom classification codes as well as integrate some 3rd party AI services. Support and documentation for the AI human in the loop (missions), maintenance/training dashboard and related bug list is limited to non-existent.
