Robust Feature Set that is well documented and continually evolving. Features like intelligent sampling, change intelligence, Root Cause Analysis, Instrumentation Quality feedback, complex query predicates for filtering & alerting, etc., take it well beyond a simple OpenTracing solution. The quality of observability across our organization has dramatically improved (with the bottleneck usually being the rate of adoption and not feature set or ease of instrumentation). Using their public API, we have been able to build dependency graphs, generate automated snapshots for engineers to look at at their convenience, and use as SLI (Service Level Indicator). Excellent quality of service: We have had very few outages, which are listed immediately on the status page and fixed quickly; I think we've never had a significant outage or loss of data that has lasted more than 30 minutes if that. Exemplary Customer Service: They hold themselves to all commitments, follow up on all issues raised with transparency, and prioritize bug fixes and feature requests based on their impact. They also provide hands-on support in the form of generating usage/billing stats and reports that aren't readily available on the UI or cleaning up stale (or one-off) services from the system to ensure we don't hit our service limit before they naturally get pruned.
The API is really good and documentation about it.
The trace visualization capabilities are superb, giving us unique insight into our platform. The vendor support team is wonderful to work with, constantly open to helping us solve our use cases and proposing new ways to get more value from the tool.
The only criticism I had was some very sporadic unexplained 403s on their public API that went away upon retry that took quite a long time to completely go away. But even that was never persistent enough to cause issues.

The tool is still playing catch up in the metrics & logging spaces because initially it was only focused on tracing. I'd also like to see more multi-tenancy capabilities with extensive RBAC controls for the users.

Excellent product. After PoC-ing multiple alternatives, the feature set, documentation, and service provided stood out, making our decision to pick LightStep an obvious one. In the 5 years we have used LightStep, they have continued to excel in all those areas, letting us renew their contract with very little concern. In that duration, the quality of service (both of the product and their customer service team) has been exemplary. We rarely run into issues with the system; when we do, it is likely already on the status page and handled with a quick turnabout and transparency. They have been very open to feedback, soliciting our input in product design when we have expressed interest. They have been transparent about their roadmap and stuck to their deliverables. I found ServiceNow Cloud Observability helps us at all points during our migration from on-prem observability tools. They were responsive to suggestions where features we used didn't already exist in SNCO and looked for feedback when rolling out new features. This felt like a partnership rather than a normal Customer/Vendor relationship!
