Three features that I like about this product is the ability to create dashboards to help tell a story using graphs and numbers. The second would be the SPL language itself; it is easy to comprehend and create queries for alerting. The last thing would be that their documentation that is provided is very extensive and their community page has allowed me to always find the answers I needed.
The ability to turn raw logs into stunning actionable dashboards, real time analysis
We have a lot of legacy (local/on-premises) systems and integration with those is very important for us. Splunk has great support for this alongside support for multiple other vendors (non Microsoft related). Another important thing for us is the customisation capability and the fact that we can create completely new custom dashboards/reports.
Three things that I dislike about the product would be first the ability to run rules once they are created without having to adjust the rules settings in order for the rule right away. Second, I would say that sometimes Splunk errors are not as straightforward as I would hope and would love to see more feedback provided to the end user. Third, their dashboarding capability is extremely extensive and helpful but when it comes to Tokens, I would find it helpful for more features around implementing those throughout a dashboard.
cost and steep learning curve
Lack of integration capabilities with Microsoft solutions like Defender/Entra ID, etc. We can ingest the data from Microsoft into Splunk - no issues here. But Splunk doesn't support back tracing into the Microsoft ecosystem. For example, if you change the status in Splunk - it won't be reflected back on the MS side and it has to be done manually or through some other automation/3rd party solution.
