A very competent software that can do a lot of things, but the main focus for me is just for editing PDF´s that i guess is what most of the users do, and in that case this software is a bit overkill.

What Your Peers Are Saying About Adobe Acrobat

Engineering Manager
We are looking for an alternative for ADOBE Acrobat and came across PDF24. Does anybody have experience with this tool and also the company that provides it for free? Has it been tested from a security perspective?
Information Security Manager
PDF24 is a free PDF creation, editing, and conversion tool developed by a German company called Geek Software GmbH. It's well-regarded for being lightweight and offering a wide range of PDF manipulation features. Here’s some insight based on user experiences and security considerations: User Experiences: 1. Ease of Use: PDF24 is often praised for being user-friendly and providing features that are comparable to Adobe Acrobat, such as merging, splitting, compressing, and converting PDFs. 2. Performance: Many users highlight its quick performance and the absence of heavy system resource consumption, making it ideal for personal and small business use. 3. Cost: Since PDF24 is free, it's attractive for users who need basic to intermediate PDF functionalities without subscribing to Adobe's paid services. Security Considerations: 1. Privacy Policy & Data Handling: PDF24 can be used offline, meaning that sensitive documents don't need to be uploaded to the cloud, reducing the risk of data breaches associated with online tools. 2. Security Features: While the tool doesn't offer the same level of advanced document security (such as Adobe's certification and validation features), it does support password protection and encryption of PDFs. 3. Updates: As an actively maintained tool, PDF24 regularly releases updates, improving features and addressing potential security vulnerabilities. Security Testing: PDF24 has been broadly used by individuals and businesses, but it has not been as rigorously tested or certified for enterprise-level security compliance as Adobe Acrobat. It’s not common to see formal security audits published, so for businesses handling sensitive data, it’s important to weigh the tool’s limitations. In more security-critical environments, you may want to consider additional tools for auditing and monitoring if you decide to use PDF24. If you're part of an organization that prioritizes data security, a thorough internal assessment of PDF24’s impact on your security posture, or using it in combination with other security controls, might be necessary.

With the Adobe Acrobat increases, I'm curious: how are other organizations working through this? We are currently emailing everyone that holds a license and making sure they need it, also looking at alternatives.

Basically, the pdf24 suite (see: https://www.pdf24.org/en/) turns out to be a free alternative to Adobe Acrobat. In addition, one should "just" hint others on the integrated possibility to export pdfs from any Microsoft application directly.

A reliable, full-featured tool from teams that work heavily with PDFs

    4.0
    Dec 9, 2025
I work at a fast-moving startup where we handle a constant mix of contracts, internal documentation, and materials for clients or investors. Adobe Acrobat has become one of the few tools we rely on every day without worrying about stability. Overall, my experience has been very positive.Editing PDFs without breaking the original layout is extremely helpful, and signing documents digitally saves a lot of time in a team that's always juggling multiple priorities. The only downside is that Acrobat can feel heavy when I have several apps open at once (slack, zoom, notion, etc). It's not a blocker, but it's noticeable. Even so, the reliability and feature depth make up for it.

Document Standardization Across HR Platforms Improved but Collaboration Remains Fragmented

From my perspective, Adobe Acrobat is a dependable tool in Payroll and HCM environments overall, for handling sensitive employee documents such as tax forms, contracts, and compliance records. Overall, it is a strong, supporting tool, not a system of record, and delivers the most value when paired with core payroll or HCM platforms.

Comprehensive PDF Tools and Cloud Syncing Offset Occasional Slowness in Acrobat

I use Adobe Acrobat daily to edit PDF files, and my subscription has met all of my expectations. Acrobat has all the features I need for my everyday work, and has made editing my documents easy. Other than some slowness when working on large documents and some changes to layouts when converting to PDF from other file types, it functions perfectly for me.

Chrome Extension and Conversion Accuracy Improve Workflow Despite Expensive Subscription

    5.0
    Nov 25, 2025
My overall experience has been excellent so far. For anyone, this tool is mandatory to play around with documents especially PDFs. I have used many different tools, but nothing compares to Acrobat for document security and finalization. The biggest benefit is knowing that when a document leaves my desk, it’s secure and compliant. The redaction tools are reliable, and the built-in e-Signature process guarantees that the final audit report is legally binding. The stability is great too, it rarely crashes and it's easy to integrate into our shared drives and archival systems, especially the Chrome extension which is a game changer for me. This product is simply the standard for professional document handling and compliance.

Reviewer Insights for: Adobe Acrobat
Performance of Adobe Acrobat Across Market Features

Adobe Acrobat Likes & Dislikes

Like

Three areas of strength in using Adobe Acrobat are: 1. The tool library is extremely easy to find and also clearly describes what each function entails, making it easy to know where to go to complete certain work tasks. 2. Document security functions, especially PDF protection and redaction, are robust against disruption/unwanted access and enable: compliance with security standards, preserving specific versions of documents, and safe storage of sensitive information or metadata. 3. Adobe Acrobat seamlessly integrates with a variety of other data storage tools, making it easy to search for and process documents from a variety of sources without having to jump between different software or store every file on one device.

Like

I like that the product is a standard in the market and that its compatible with lots of other products, and are leading the PDF market

Like

Reliable PDF editing that preserves formatting, even with more complex documents. Super fast Fill & Sign, which speeds up approvals and contract reviews - very helpful in a startup environment. Great tool for merging, splitting and reorganizing PDFs, which we use often when preparing investor decks or client materials. Solid security and permission controls, which helps us avoid data-sharing mistakes.

Dislike

Three areas of improvement I see with Adobe Acrobat are: 1. When you work with longer documents, creating clickable links to navigate within the same document can be a tedious process that requires excessive scrolling back and forth. 2. The Prepare a Form tool has an automatic field creation feature that can be hit-or-miss; at times it creates fields out of nowhere, and other times it can completely miss out on an area that clearly needs to be prepared. 3. Text editing does not have as rich a variety of options as other text editing software. Notably, it can be surprisingly difficult to manage the alignment of text boxes with other elements. (loose dragging and no snapping to optimal locations)

Dislike

That the product has been to big and complex, i want the possiblity to adapt it to my needs, now it good but bulky and takes a lots of resources from my PC. And to be honest there are a lot of services running in the background.

Dislike

It can feel heavy or slow, especially when multiple applications are open The interface feels dated compared to the lighter, more modern tools startups often use. Some advanced features are buried in menus, making simple tasks take longer than they should.
