Arcserve Unified Data Protection (UDP) Likes & Dislikes
It is a unified, all-in-one data protection platform that combines backup, replication & DR on a single console with ransomware protection plan.
Deduplication and compression rates.
The management interface works well in regards to creating plans and managing servers. Restore/backup Works well using agentless with virtual environments Dedupe is also very efficient. The support staff are very knowledgeable, and the team reaches out for health checks etc.
Observed slowness while restoring backup of large workloads & price seems to be high compared to other OEMs. Arcserve does not have a Cloud service provider in India location for Air gap solution implementation which is a regulatory mandatory.
It can be a complex implementation Cloud Console Software bugs
There's little in the way of linux features, just the basic agent that has to be manually deployed. having to contact support for a new license when upgrading to a new version is rather annoying and seems unnecessary.

Major Backup Failures and Software Errors Led to Abandoning Arcserve UDP
I have been using UDP since older version 6.0 and stopped using now, on version 10.2. I always used the solution on the local console and it worked perfectly. I did not have the need to use cloud replication back then because I had site replication beteewn RPSs. I changed jobs and I started a new project to replace the backup solution in this new company. I decided to go with Arcserve UDP because of the good experience I had with it. For this new company, because we have only 1 site, we would need a cloud replication to store our data on a cloud provider. I started the process configuring the local console as I was used to. I faced a situation where the recovery points were being copied not as incremental but as a full backup to the cloud. This would cause issues regarding bandwidth usage and the time of the copy. Arcserve sales/support team recommended me to use the cloud console at this time. That is what I did and after the initial configuration everything worked fine with Windows Server backups but I had some issues with Linux and support helped me to fix it in about 3 months. My nightmare started when UDP version 10 was released, all my cloud backup (capacity backup) was merged by software error and I lost 6 months worth of data. That happened last year. This year we had another major issue where backup jobs were get stuck on a waiting status and were never completed. I spent 6 months speaking with support and having patches and workarounds data was not fixing the issues. We migrated to another solution in August because we had no fix for the issue even though we still had 1 year of license paid for. - IT Manager50M-1B USDBankingReview Source
