AWS Backup Likes & Dislikes
I like the most about AWS Backup is how it simplifies and strengthens data protection across AWS services. Some specific features like centralized backup management : It allows managing backups for multiple services (EC2, EBS, RDS, DynamoDB, EFS, etc) for a single console. Secondly automation with backup policies: its ability to create automated backup plans with defined scheduled retention periods and life cycle rules is a major strength. Thirdly, strong security and access control this integration ensures backup are secure and access is tightly controlled Encryption and compliance friendly features add another layer of trust especially for enterprise.
I love that you can backup different services like RDS, EC2, EBS, etc. The hard part is figuring out all of the permissions needed for each service. It's great to have one centralized place for all the backups and to verify that everything is backed up that should be.
Centralized backup management across diverse AWS services(EC2, RDS, dynamoDB, EFS, etc) Automated scheduling and lifecycle policies that simplify compliance and retention requirements Tight Integration with IAM for fine-grained access control and security Minimal maintenance overhead compared to traditional backup solutions
Since there is nothing to dislike about this product as I have been using it since long but few things I would like to mention like the pricing model is not very transparent, costs related to storage retention and restores can add up quickly especially for large data sets and it's sometimes difficult to estimate expenses in advance without detail monitoring.
It's quite difficult to setup for the first time. There are so many moving parts that have to be accounted for which makes it quite difficult for a beginner. For example, you need to make sure that the service role is appropriately scoped (but not over provisioned) for each service. It's also a confusing flow and you have to understand the vaults and roles, and tags before you start.
Limited Visibility and reporting features: More advanced analytics and dashboards would help track backup health at a glance Cross-region and cross-account backup management could be more intuitive, especially for large enterprises Pricing can become complex when scaling across multiple accounts and services, requiring careful monitoring

Centralized Backup Management Simplifies Data Protection Across Multiple AWS Services
My overall experience with AWS backup has been very positive. The main reason for my high rating is how reliable, centralized and easy it makes the backup and recovery process across multiple AWS services.Once configured it works smoothly in the background without requiring constant monitoring. One of the biggest trends is the centralized management being able to manage backups for services like EC2, EBS, RDS, DynamoDB and EFS from a single saves a lot of time and reduces operational complexity. For me what really worked well is the automation and consistency, after setting the backup rules I didn't have to worry about missed backups, the integration with IAM roles and permissions ensures strong security and controlled access. - EXPERT1B-10B USDSoftwareReview Source
