AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) Likes & Dislikes
Read Full ReviewGranularity. I build small systems meant to grow with a clients organization. It's fairly simple to set-up and build with future growth in mind. If you have an issue, tech support is fast and just a click away.
Read Full ReviewGranular control: This is a key part of the AWS platform, letting you define super-specific permissions for any user or service on any resource. This level of fine-grained control is essential for security. Seamless integration: IAM works with every other AWS service right out of the box. You don't need a third-party tool for basic access control, which simplifies management and auditing. Cost: Its a core service with no extra cost, which is a major advantage compared to other identity management solutions that charge per user.
Read Full ReviewGetting started. The AWS dash can be quite daunting and time consuming. Billing mistakes are too easy to make.
Read Full ReviewComplexity and learning curve: Writing a policy can be tricky. It takes a lot of time to learn the syntax and figure out how policies interact with each other. This is a big hurdle for new users. Debugging policies is a pain: When you get an Access Denied error, figuring out the exact line in a JSON policy that's causing the problem is very difficult and time-consuming. The tools could be better. User interface: The console can feel clunky and unintuitive. It's not very user-friendly for day-to-day administration compared to some competitors who focus on a clean user experience.

- Data Analyst<50M USDBankingReview Source
AWS IAM Delivers Strong Security But Presents Notable Complexity And Usability Challenges
AWS IAM is the foundation of security for any AWS workload. It's a critical, reliable, and powerful service that enables us to enforce a strong security posture. It's not the easiest to learn, but the peace of mind it provides is well worth the effort. - SR. SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR<50M USDMediaReview Source
Integrated Identity Management and Automated Provisioning Enhance AWS IAM Efficiency
AWS IAM has been a breeze since we have deployed it. We have also integrated it with another identity provider and have been syncing the directory users and groups. This makes it much easier to manage resource access by leveraging synced accounts, especially when vendor access is required. You can also create custom roles and policies as desired. All enabling and disabling is managed automatically by the sync/provisioning. - CLOUD ENGINEER / CLOUD SPECIALIST50M-1B USDBankingReview Source
AWS IAM : The backbone of access control
Useful services from AWS to create end to end access key creation for user authentication The policy creation and management can be a bit tricky and you can may overprovision but if management carefully extremely useful - SECURITY ENGINEER10B+ USDBankingReview Source
AWS IAM Enables Granular Access Control But Requires Deep Cloud Expertise
As a fundamental part of AWS Security there is no option to not use it. We are happy with the overall professional services provided by AWS and IAM services is a great example of it. Thanks to this we are improving our security posture by easy implementation of Role based access control, MFA, Granular premission and fully integrate it with others AWS services.
