The single sign-on (SSO) integration is the best feature. Being able to click on a tile on my dashboard and instantly get authenticated onto complex tools without re-entering credentials is a huge time saver. I also appreciate the mobile verify app for MFA, and the push notifications are much faster than typing in SMS codes or TOTP tokens when I'm trying to get work done quickly.
1.) I can build conditional access rules based on users, groups, device state, location, and risk level to tightly control who gets access and when. 2.) Integration with MDM/EMM tools lets me enforce access policies based on device compliance for our desktop and mobile devices. 3.) While it's not a full Data Loss Prevention (DLP) platform, Okta's app level policies, session controls and authentication help reduce data exposure by limiting access and enforcing security at the identity layer.
What I like most is that now I no longer need to juggle different passwords which can be cumbersome. I now have MFA that is secure and easy to use. A clean interface and accessibility via the Okta app keeps everything tidy. What's impressive is its flexibility across different organizations within the larger umbrella of the company -- we can all use the same portal without needing to cross-over.
Sometimes the session timeouts feel a bit aggressive, forcing me to re-authenticate multiple times a day, though that might be our internal policy rather than an Okta issue. Occasionally, when the verification push notification doesn't arrive immediately due to network lag, the fallback options (like finding the code manually) feel a bit clunky compared to the primary push method.
1.) The built in reports are basic and getting deeper insights requires APIs or exporting data to external tools. 2.) While the policy engine does feel powerful, I find creating and managing many conditional access rules becomes cumbersome and hard to track. 3.) Sometimes push notifications or biometric logins in Fail or require repeated retries. This can create friction for end users. And cause extra help desk support requests. More granular policy controls would help with this.
What I disliked at the beginning was the setup, with different layers of security at the company, it was not immediately intuitive what code or application to use. Another dislike is that some of the other applications that I use are not integrated with Okta SSO, so I need to keep another set of passwords or authentication apps with me. The last dislike, which is very minor, is that the frequency that I need to re-sign-in via Okta is too high.
