Power Query has all the major functionality options from python, R, and support for so many different data lake & data warehouse options. It also has the support for advanced queries and utilization of API calls which is fantastic for a query service.
User-enablement, availability & wide choice of features.
Nearly limitless connector selection - From SQL to SharePoint to CSV to APIs, it can take in and mash up anything and everything. Query folding - When it pushes transforms to SQL the server does the heavy lifting and my machine stays cool. Step by Step UI - with a procedural design and steps everything is easily debugged.
The main issue of Power Query is that is struggles with large data sets, it has continous caching issues and breaks functionality within itself when reloading, and there are continous issues with connected services. The biggest problem I have with power query is its slow time to pull 100mb of information.
No embedded service principal authentication, implementing API-procedures are difficult, no embedded function-builder library from the tenant
Performance drop-off - If you load a lot of data, the performance chugs. M language rabbit holes - one typo in a LET statement and the errors can be overwhelming. Source control - PBIX commits don't let me see diffs.
