OpenText Server Backup Likes & Dislikes
Data compression, backwards compatibility, simplified licensing and overall administration of the backup solution are very impressive. The vault director is also a great product for multitenancy, and the security is also praise worthy.
Their software and site is very simple to navigate and understand. There product uses a very minimalist approach which allows a quick setup solution, when needed.
The ease of deployment, the cloud management portal and the simplistic nature of the product
The mediocre knowledgebase and lack of customization in the Portal reporting.
It's strange that as big as Carbonite is, they did not have bill by invoice as an option. As a result, the charge shows up on the credit card, yearly. The minimalist approach to the product often leaves it lacking. We mysteriously had our backups stop working in London with no indication as to why... we didn't even get an alert that the backups were not occurring! Support gave us the uninstall and re-install answer. This fixed the issue, but we have since been greatly unsettled. We now do manual checks to make sure things are always backing up successfully. We've gained some confidence, but can't help but be concerned.
Can cause VSS writers to crash, vault report can sometimes differ from portal reporting. Any changes to disk or hardware causes a new full backup and new dataset

Expensive, but it works well.
They were always cordial and helpful. We just ended our relationship due to cost. It became a lot more over the years. - IT Manager1B-10B USDInsurance (except health)Review Source
Carbonite - The Minimalist Approach to Backups
We went with Carbonite Server for one of our locations (London) specifically because we were already using Carbonite for our desktops and we needed a quick solution. At first we had GDPR concerns and we wanted to make sure that the cloud data would remain in London. There initially wasn't a quick answer for this. We required some digging and additional time with support to confirm how to do this. I think GDPR is still not a popular term for the common tech support crowd, so this wasn't entirely a surprise. At the end of the day, we confirmed that selecting your location as "UK" during the install would force the backups to save to local UK servers. Our overall experience with Carbonite has been an easy solution, but sometimes "easy" comes at a cost, for example, advanced configurations sometimes leave the product lacking. Overall, the solution is just enough to get by... which is also true for their support. As with our other Carbonite solutions, the most used support answer seems to be "just uninstall and re-install" to resolve issue with no indication as to why there's a problem or if it will happen again. - Technology Support TechnicianGov't/PS/EdEducationReview Source
Easy to use unless you have multiple cloud backups happening on your network.
Works well enough for the most part for server cloud backups. It allows you to set a schedule and have your servers backed up however often you would like and at a time that works for you. However, it tends to fail and have other issues if you have other backups going on over your network.
