for splunk cloud we like the svc model, this stands out compairing to others vendors, it keep clear view on costs. For Splunk olly we like the no sampling part and the integration between splunk cloud and splunk olly. If you currentje use splunk cloud, splunk olly is a no-brainer.
Splunk is a great alternative to log access w/o SSHing into machines directly. And once one knows how to use splunk well, it's quite fast at creating dashboards and metrics from logs.
Being able to self serve, being able to capture key metrics, logs in one dashboard, that is very versatile and class leading. The ability to also learn on the go via the various tools available online. Also, seeing the potential of the AI feature set gives us a lot to consider in terms of features that can be used for our purposes. Finally seeing everything dynamically update in real-time is a game changer. The trick in all of this is knowing what service level details need to be captured for it to be most valuable to the operational teams.
We did not like the ingest model for Splunk cloud, that's why we switched to the svc model. The TAPM model for Splunk olly is a bit complicated but we like a traces model better than a spans model, we reuse trace id's over the application chain to keep costs low
The learning curve and the price. It's very difficult to discover and know how to query logs in splunk without saving prior examples. Not to mention, the overly verbose logging pattern caused us to run out of budget too fast and we found the service disruption quite cumbersome to our observability overall. We would miss events during high traffic times because we ran out of quota.
Nothing at this stage since the tool has what we are looking for.
