Active Backup for Business (ABB) Likes & Dislikes
1. Cost-effective Microsoft 365 backup In the public sector, budget constraints are always a concern. Synology's ABB for Microsoft 365 backup solution has been a game changer for us because of its license-free nature. Unlike other platforms that charge based on the number of users or amount of storage used, Synology allows us to back up our Microsoft 365 environment (email, SharePoint, Teams, etc.) without added licensing costs. Just the up front cost of the hardware. This has been a huge advantage for us in terms of cost savings and making it possible for us to even back up Microsoft 365 to begin with. The license costs from competitors have been show stoppers. 2. Ease of use with DSM (DiskStation Manager) Setting up and managing Synology's DSM software has been straightforward. DSM is user-friendly, with an intuitive interface that makes it easy to schedule backups, configure restores and monitor system health. The entire solution has been efficient and very low-maintenance, allowing us to focus on other things. It just works. 3. Last but not least: reliable backups and data recovery I've had multiple instances where we've needed to restore emails, documents or whole Teams workspaces from our backups, and the process was seamless every time. Whether it's a single file or an entire mailbox, our Synology solution has always handled restores reliably and quickly. We haven't experienced any data loss or issues recovering or backup jobs failing.
Easy installation and maintenance
Synology High Availablity is an extremely useful feature especially for businesses who require 24/7 redundancy should anything go wrong! DSM is incredibly simple to use and prompts you throughout how to use the features quickconnect - saves me from having to speak to IT about port forwarding, its incredibly usedul!
1. Hard disk digital rights management One of the major drawbacks of Synology's system is that some features are only available on Synology branded drives. For some newer models, Synology tried to enforce DRM-like restrictions that required use of Synology-branded or certified drives to unlock full functionality. They have however backtracked on this decision. We've been using 3rd-party drives (Seagate IronWolf Pros) and haven't ran into any DRM issues, except some of the more advanced deduplication features are not available for us. 2. Advanced user documentation While Synology's DSM is relatively user-friendly for average users, advanced admins such as myself have found the documentation lacking when dealing with more complex troubleshooting instead referring to contact support and let them remotely fix the issues which can be a compliance issue in some jurisdictions. 3. Limited customisation and flexibility for advanced use cases While Synology offers a lot of built-in functionality, it can fall short in areas where advanced customisation or greater flexibility is required. This can be a challenge, if you'd like the system to do something that it isn't designed to do or there is not a pre-built app in the app store for it. It is a very locked down ecosystem.
When using the bakup facility for mulitple customers, it is not possible to create an overview of the storage load per customer
FS2500 doesnt have an expansion port shoukd i want more storage in the future - not a deal breaker at all, but would of been nice to have would be nice to have some officially supported SFP adaptors - even though most should work, it would be nice to see a couple of manufacture tested brands to give us reassurance it will work. i resorted to forums and synology technical support, but would be nice to just have a list. the ability to trunk the ports on the back of the server to allow multiple vlans to be tagged. for example heartbeat and replication on vlan 50, and then user data on a separate vlan

Cost effective, reliable solution for Microsoft 365 backups and more
As someone working in the education sector, data management and backups are a top priority for us, from student records to faculty documents, everything needs to be securely backed up and easily recoverable. I've been using Synology products in our college (40000+ users) primarily for their Microsoft 365 backup solution, and I'm really impressed with what it offers in terms of features and cost-effective, license-free nature of their solution, which has been a top priority as a publicly funded college. - IT Services Associate<50M USDTravel and HospitalityReview Source
High Availability and Ease of Use Stand Out in Synology NAS Experience
I will only ever use synology NAS’s purely because of how reliable they are! i have used them personally at home for nearly 10 years and professionally for 5+ years! They are extremely simple to use, have all the features i need and quite simply “just work” Synology also helped me before the purchase looking over my technical schematic and advjsinf on where to make chnages. i have some pretty specific requirements and needed to ensure full redundancy. - It Associate<50M USDIT ServicesReview Source

Simplified Backup and Restore for Virtual Machines Across Multiple Operating Systems
I was very surprised at how easy it is with Active Backup for Business (ABB) to integrate an existing VM Ware cluster an back up the existing virtual machines. Restoring the backup either to the same virtual machine or as a copy to a newly created virtual machine also works easily and well. In addition, we use Active Backup for Business to backup several Apple Mac computers, Windows PCs, Linux PCs and SMB volumes connected to servers. Everything works without any problems an is easy to implement. The report with an overview of the data volume is also great. For added security, you also receive emails and messages about the status of the backups and successful storage.
