They are a no code or low code platform, easy deployment, very user friendly and they have the ability to connect to other systems with reduced process times
I like that it houses all of our data in one place and has a simple user interface that is both customizable and interactive for workflow for business process agility. With more users on the interface, it's been helpful to gather data that we were previously unable to collect all on a single platform. Although there are still issues to work out, it has been fairly simple to deploy fixes to glitches encountered.
The user interface is one of the key points to highlight and hence very easy a to develop a workflow application is quick time using the drag and drop features. We can convert a complex business requirements in to a simple workflow using Appian. Since its a low code application, a user without a knowledge of coding like C#,C can develop a quick workflow application. The inbuilt UI/UX are amazing that provides a rich look to our application. Actually it reduces all the efforts for a developer as a part of code development life cycle.
Though it has advanced customization challenges and UI drag & drop limitations, it is one of the most powerful platforms used by many companies. it has a capability to build reusable integration components
Being that it is so customizable, there are sometimes snags in the system not recognizing things on a practicality/logical level from our job standpoint. There have been lag times with operation due to glitches with the system crashing or not loading properly. Another issue is that as a user, we have to wait on program administrators to update and resolve inefficiencies. It would be better to put certain customizations in the hands of end users as all users work differently to maximize their own efficiencies based on how they would best like their workflow set up for their view. Because this program is for usability and our workflow, it has been a pain point any time there is any down time on the service/product.
I am really happy with the way Appian helped me in developing fast workflow applications, So I couldn't find much issues with the application. Only thing I noticed is the integration to third party deployment tools like Jenkins need to be improved.

Not the most viable code development tool for use by inexperienced users.
It is being used to aid in the automation of our IT procurement processes. It speeds up the process of getting vendor quotes to the approval person. We also use it to send automated reminders to relevant employees to finish tasks that have been left unfinished in development, test, and production environments.
