Google Analytics 360: a weakened digital marketing platform loses ground

I've been using Google Analytics 360 as a digital marketer for over a decade but over a year into the GA4 rollout, I want to add my voice and experience to the many online who have questioned what Google was doing with its complete platform overhaul. I currently use Google Analytics 360 in two capacities: as a marketer for the agency I work for, using it to analyze campaign performance for our own website and our business development marketing; and as an insights manager assisting clients with understanding the impact of their digital campaigns. Historically, Google Analytics 360 has been a good performer with a much better ROI compared to other enterprise tool suites. For reference, my typical ROI in the past with Google Analytics 360 was 4 to 1 or 5 to 1 for many clients. Since the GA4 roll-out, that ROI is barely 1 to 1 because of the vast amount of additional work and customization required to derive the same data from the platform. GA4 requires an immense volume of custom tagging and custom event setup, and to try to get a 1:1 view of the types of reports that were standard in the prior version of Google Analytics 360 means building a custom report for nearly every view. In addition, the overhaul to GA4 is so vast that many of the tools that I used that integrated with Google Analytics 360 in the past took a very long time to build out new connectors for GA4. This really slowed down my work as a marketer as well as my work providing insights for clients. In addition, several of my clients have smaller implementation teams and struggled significantly and for a long time to configure the new tool. My advice to any digital marketer looking for a platform to track and assess campaign impact would be to look elsewhere, because even starting from scratch GA4 is difficult
