The hosted infrastructure means you don't worry about server management or PCI compliance, which simplifies the technical overhead (so some saving and good if you don't stick with support suppliers). The checkout flow is optimised and converts reasonably well out of the box without much tweaking. People will find it familiar too. The app store provides access to third-party tools for shipping, marketing, and inventory management when native features don't cover everything which has solved most my headaches for requests. The admin interface is straightforward enough that non-technical users can manage products and orders without constant support.
Performance metrics, user-friendly, intergrates well with external platforms, easy to manage listings
Its reporting dashboard - in the back end there are lots of reports to be able to look at revenue by source / traffic. It's easy to use CMS and functionality - compared to other providers its really simple to use and even the most non-digital savvy customers find they can use this with ease which we love. The pricing structure is really clear and easy to sell on to our customers with set prices and no hidden surcharges. Setting up GA4 and e-commerce tracking via Shopify is really easy and can be done from within the CMS by connecting GA4.
The template system locks you into certain structural patterns that are hard to break out of when client needs diverge. Transaction fees on lower tier plans add up and feel punitive compared to the subscription cost. The native reporting is surface level, so you end up needing additional tools for actual business intelligence. All part of working with such a big and locked in platform, but also delivers the pros and keeps things simple.
Can cause SEO issues, lots of custom code overrrides other codes, little customization available, limited by CMS presets
The only thing that we have really found with Shopify is that the Core Web Vitals can struggle to score green across the board. This is because of the easy coding and plug-in additions of the site, which is also one of the positives of using Shopify.

Shopify Simplifies Ecommerce Setup But Has Limitations in Customisation Depth
I do believe if you're building an ecommerce store and your budget permits, then Shopify is a no brainer. It gets the essentials right for setting up an online store. The storefront templates work well enough and the checkout process is solid. I've found that the app ecosystem fills in most of the gaps for features that aren't built in natively. You probably need to ask yourself if you really need a feature if it falls outside of that. Where it falls short is in customisation depth. When clients wanted specific workflows or data structures that didn't fit Shopify's model, we hit walls. The pricing also scales up quickly once you need features beyond the basics. Support was responsive for straightforward issues but struggled with technical edge cases. - DIGITAL DIRECTOR<50M USDConsumer GoodsReview Source

It is cost effective and its data reporting dashboard is great with lots of plug-ins and add-ons which dont require a development team to implement. - EXPERT OPERATIONS ASSOCIATE50M-1B USDHealthcare and BiotechReview Source
