Commvault Archiving (Legacy) Likes & Dislikes
Easy to implement solution that our end users find simple to use and navigate. Support for many storage options, including iSCSI and NFS.
I like this to be a part of the Commvault backup suite, no separate management interface.
I like how it integrates with Commvault backup and it's policy based system. It works great in tandem to create a more comprehensible system.
Archive agents are needed on various systems for this file archiving solution to work. Back end is based on Windows file access, so that can take a toll on your servers.
There is nothing i dislike, because the product does what it needs to do. It's an expensive soution, but what isn't...
I dislike the strictness of the stub system from the file location perspective. Once moved, you need to find the file manually and restore it to the correct new location in order to let archiving update it's location (and archive it upon the next run unless you use access statistics).

Good method to archive files
We used Commvault Archiving for several years for file archiving, on our NetApp filers, without severe issues. Overall we are pleased with this solution. - Sr. Manager, Technology Supplier Managem50M-1B USDBankingReview Source
Commvault in dire need of strong competition.
Commvault's products are not advancing at a rate we'd like to see, and their services/support team is lacking in quality resources. - Network Admin50M-1B USDRetailReview Source
Easy to implement and manage. End user access is fairly intuitive.
Excellent file level archiving solution that allows out users to move, store and access their important files on separate systems that are designated as archive. Data can be replicated from site to site so that restoration of files or data can be quickly accomplished in case of a data center outage. - Teamlead IT50M-1B USDFinance (non-banking)Review Source
Easy to set-up and use but be aware of the caveats on the archived server.
CommVault Archiving is really easy to set-up and it works like a charm. The product gives you great insight into what you have archived as well as a comprehensible search to find what you're looking for. On the other hand, the archiving mechanism relied on Windows File access statistics which we all know have quite an impact on performance if you choose to keep access statistics running. Also, the stub mechanism doesn't account for moving of folders to other locations so you need everyone to be aware of the solution in order to not end up with orphaned stubs. - Senior Engineer10B+ USDIT ServicesReview Source
Kudos Commvault Archiving !
This Backup and recovery as well as archiving tool is the best in the market currently and we use it for the same purposes in our organisation. Its been a simple and easy implementation. The ability to move large amounts of data from primary storage is very helpful. Our overall experience has been positive and overwhelming.
